White House Floats Military Option for Greenland

Probably so, just as the Trumpers (and the press) dismiss his flubs as just “Trump being Trump,” something they either admire or disregard.

Deliberate or not, ignoring the warning signs of the declining mental health of our leaders doesn’t serve us well. It likely cost the Democrats the election and doomed the nation to the disaster of another Trump term. What will ignoring Trump’s decline get us?

No argument from me on this. I find tribalism to be juvenile at best and dangerous at worst and definitely no substitute for intelligent discourse.

there is the additional context of making these kinds of flubs (and countless others) while threatening to invade and conquer a long time ally for no reason other than propping up your fragile ego

All of this hoo hah over nothing! Why does Trump insist on using his "internal" voice in interviews instead of "political speak" like all the other politicians? I think he gets off on watching the press and Dems get their panties in a wad. It's tiring and a complete waste of time and resources.

Let me translate for everyone:

he doesn't really have jack squat.

He has "Let's appease this moron until he's gone and then do what we want," which is what every "deal" this dime store Yankee ever makes really is.

You nailed it. I'm also not convinced the Chinese have equipment that can't do half what they say it can do. The Communists generally aren't real good at innovation. They steal other people's stuff and make poor copies in many cases.
I have never been a fan of the cheap junk made in China that the world has consumed $ billions of while allowing their (our) own design and manufacturing capability to wither. That has led to the overall decline in our society and led to a tremendous wealth transferaway from the middle class. All that has made China a nation with the largest currency and gold reserves on the planet and a trade balance that continues to grow despite Trump tariffs. No one should doubt their government's willingness to suppress dissent or resort to practically slave labor to achieve their aims but within that they have built cities, massive infrastructure, practically taken over global industries such as ship building with much more to come. We can underestimate them at our own peril.

In my mind much of this is due to the pure greed of Walmart , Amazon and Wall Street who largely benefitted while midwestern cities rotted away.

i wonder how folks would have reacted if biden had repeatedly mixed up iceland and greenland

Which folks?

I don't think it dawned on anyone defending the last nursing home candidate that going with "you can't believe what you see on camera" was going to have a long shelf life. The current one already ought to be hanged, drawn, and quartered for what he pulled on January 6, but tough Republicans who are so high on law and order can always find exceptions among white rich guys.

We had a good laugh when he was VP and mixed up the NY Giants with the San Francisco 49ers - but hell, that one is understandable because San Fran DOES have a BASEBALL team named the Giants.

I think prior to his obvious decline, we would have chuckled. I also think that particular mistake in and of itself isn't all that unusual when you remember Greenland is mostly ice and Iceland is mostly green.

Those Vikings were tricky with their naming conventions.

Let me go even farther, would anyone here support a military occupation by the US in Greenland?
I’m typically against any ‘boots on the ground’ in situations that do not immediately defend the safety of the US (which excludes a vast majority of situations in my lifetime where we had troops on the ground), but without knowing why this is such a big deal to Trump, I don’t know.

It could be another seemingly out-of-left-field thing. Likely is. Or there could be strategy involved in this whole situation that I’m unaware of.

I’m certain those who despise everything Trump does will immediately knee-jerk into the “he cannot do anything right and is a complete moron” mode, but despite my reservations regarding some of his actions, I want to know more about the why before I make up my mind about it.

So you cant say no to invading another country, who also happens to be a NATO member? I'll change your statement a bit for clarification, trump is an old fool and cant do much right.

Not definitely. My initial reaction is ‘of course not’, but assuming this isn’t a 25A issue, I’ll readily admit I don’t know all the moving pieces behind the scenes.

If ,for example, this is a play to ensure that enemies of the US whole are trying to gain access cannot get a foothold on Greenland, then it may well be pragmatic.

But again, I’d have to know a lot more about the situation than the breathless headlines (from both those supporting it and those against it) to really know if I thought it wise.
