Savannah Guthrie's mother's abduction, Arizona

Albert Einstein once said "The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits."

Last night, they said she had "Nest cameras," one or more which was smashed and the doorbell taken. They said only someone familiar with the house would know where the cameras were. However, the circumstances indicate the abductors were not fully versant with the state of her health. Any kidnapper with two brain cells to rub together should know that the only salable commodity they possess is a live victim. Corpses go much lower in value. The violence shown in the blood patterns on the front stoop indicate that the kidnapper, or his agent(s) knew a lot but apparently didn't take her health into account. She was obviously struggling, also not good for someone on a pacemaker. The type of pacemaker matters also. It may be to lower the risk or stroke, or the entire function of the heart may depend on it, auguring her early death. At any rate, the kidnappers' behavior has been sophisticated in some ways and abysmally stupid in others...

They checked the security cameras at a local (Tucson) Circle K .

My thought would be landscaper, house keeper, food delivery, medical help, uber . It wasn’t random. Someone that has been at the house before.

I didn't watch the whole thing but apparently the 3 siblings put out another video - saying they will pay the ransom to get Mom back.

Reinforces to me that the second message from the kidnappers gave them the assurance they needed they were legit and Mom was still alive.

I'm staying optimistic Mom gets back home.

I will be shocked if Guthrie's mother is even alive at this point.

I hope she is, but the longer this goes on the less likely it is for no other reason than her age and health. This is not kidnapping a young and healthy Elizabeth Smart.

I said the same to my spouse last night...not being negative but the odds are not in her favor. Sad either way....

Do you think the ransom is over $5 million? $10 million?

Hearing the ransom amount is $6 million.

Chump change to get Mom back.

I have no idea what the family's net worth is, but like I said - with the exposure this event has gotten on the world stage - they could recoup the $6 million easily through a Go Fund Me or similar afterwards. Especially if Mom comes back alive.

I'll also say that I hear people say all the time about public figures "Oh they can afford it - they're rich!" What they apparently don't get is that "rich" people more times than not are leveraged out. So essentially - they cannot always :"afford it"!

Maybe NBC will chip in, she wouldn’t be in danger if Savannah wasn’t a mainstay on that network. You never know a families net worth, I have seen estimates of $40mil, so $6million is a good chunk, but you never know how much money one has. Nick Saban estimated net worth is $80 million, but anyone with half a brain , including Forbes, knows he is approaching Billionaire status.
Yes, Most ‘Rich’ people have their money working for them, not just sitting in a bank vault, being counted daily. So yeah, it may be hard to come up with $6million, then convert it to Bitcoin. Especially given Bitcoins recent volatility . Which brings another question. Will government regulators demand some form of tracking of Cryptocurrency. It seems to be the preferred method of payment for criminals, cartels, and rogue STATES.

This reminds me of a story Lewis Grizzard used to tell all the time.

Reg Murphy worked at the AJC with Lewis, and in 1974 he was kidnapped and held for ransom, and the kidnapper demanded $700,000 ($4.6M today). Editor James G Minter offered to take the money to the drop site and did, the money provided by Cox, who owned the AJC at that time. Minter was also not exactly a big fan of one of his writers, Furman Bisher. When I asked later what it felt like to be transporting $700,000 of someone else’s money, Minter said, “I felt like Furman Bisher on my way to spring training,” bashing the guy’s prodigious expense accounts.

Oprah Winfrey would cut a check for that amount in a NY minute!
Probably under your seat. You get $6mm , you get $6mm. Honestly, though. I thought things like this no longer existed except in movies. I feel horrible for the family. Making light, but it’s a very tragic situation.

I watched some of Banfield tonight for the first time. They were sort of hinting at the SIL. One chilling thing I noticed, since they kept showing the blood stains, was that, right outside the door there was splatter as from a forceful blow. Who in their right mind would kidnap an 84 year old in bad health who couldn't walk more than 50 yards? They always say look at the in-laws before the outlaws...

These are good points to be made.

After watching an entire week of coverage......finally the same remarks were made from a guest commentator on one of the news shows last night.

Couple of retired FBI folks, out of respect to the family, refused to give an opinion whether Nancy would be recovered alive.

That tells you something.

I'm going to remain optimistic......because it's what I want to happen.

The ransom deadline is looming......5pm today........

Savannah Guthrie posts a new video message saying "we believe our mom is still out there" and "we need your help."

===============

Not sure what is happening but seems like things may be falling apart on the ransom payment + return of Mom. Otherwise why make a "last hour" plea to the public for help in finding Mom?

There's less than 2 hours left for the payment deadline.

I'm also wondering why the reward for Mom's return is only $50K?

Seems to me it should at least be $1 million. Or more.

Please send prayers for Mom's return....... 🙏

New images in the search for Nancy Guthrie:

Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors - including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems. Working with our partners - as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance.

Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit http://tips.fbi.gov

With the apparent reluctance to provide proof of life, something probably went horribly wrong at the beginning of this.

I don't want to present myself as any sort of sleuth, I'm not. Seriously, I don't read fiction, and I'm not one of those people who gets all excited about so-called "mysteries" or "true crime detective" stuff.

However, you work in a laboratory for 30 years and you pick things up. You can pick up when domestic violence is occurring and (boy is this controversial) when a domestic violence report is "fake" as well. And we all deal in probabilities, but there's also a level of common sense.

For example - set aside even some of the most obvious evidence in the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson (you know.....her blood in his Bronco, his blood at the scene, OBVIOUS stuff). The knife murder with its sheer brutality suggests an extreme form of personal hatred. If Dershowitz's red herring about Colombian drug dealers had had any level of veracity, either she would have been popped quickly and left out in the open sun to be found as an example OR - assuming the neck gutting theory - that wouldn't have been done there at her house, although she might have been found there. Her murder was someone full of rage that made it personal. Same with Brian Laundrie killing Gabby Petito.

Or the infamous Buford Pusser ambush. Now ask yourself an obvious question: does a rolling ambush with three hit men in the dark hours of the morning on a road he was least likely to travel to investigate the alleged trouble - and then they came back and fired more rounds BUT STILL DIDN'T KILL HIM......does this even sound remotely believable? But Hollywood can sell anything.

I think you're right and this has sounded to me sorta similar to the case (but with a different reason) of Pierre Laporte, a Canadian politician kidnapped by a group of leftist terrorists (FLQ) to be held to force the release of some prisoners. They had NO INTENT to kill him (see October Crisis 1970). But he tried to escape, injured himself, and they chose to finish him off rather than take him to the doctor. They had kidnapped another guy a few days earlier, and he wound up getting released.

Dead bodies are not any good for ransom, and you have to assume they wanted something.

But their failure to prove her being alive at the early stage told me the mother was probably already dead.
