The Decline of Western Civilization

Could we be returning to logic and reason? Could the UK finally be normal again?

JUST IN: The UK is now PULLING BACK from having their police arrest citizens for freedom of speech online, for "mean comments"

Officers are being ordered to focus more on "REAL crime, not policing social media posts"

This needs to continue until NOBODY can be targeted for freedom of speech, in ANY FORM. The people of the UK should keep fighting for their freedoms!

For the FIRST TIME in British History the UK WELFARE BILL now exceeds INCOME TAXThis is insaneKeir Starmer is driving us off a cliffIncome Tax revenue - £331 BILLION Benefits & welfare - £333 BILLION
You know, I'm starting to think we are a bad influence on the U.K. If that situation gets any worse, they'll be spending like we do.

Probably. Likely even. But the British Pound isn't a wide-scale reserve currency, accounting for maybe 5%.

We're in a bad place but we have avenues to address it - I don't think the Brits do.

I wonder how they feel about the Brexit now... the consensus is that their economy has not benefited at all from it, but rather shrunk.

It's weird how they've seemingly adhered to the EU's ideological and destructive immigration policies despite wanting to 'be themselves'...

I'd guess most wish they'd not left, generally speaking, but at least they have control of their own policies (at least superficially).

I wished we could figure out some way to get other nations either by treaty or some other mechanism to pay us for our defense spending given that we generally get drug into every geopolitical confrontation in the world. This is a significant reason why we are $40T in debt. Saving their butt. That 2% of GDP ought to be going in our pocket to reduce our deficit spending. I dont mind in Ukraine that we are getting the equivalent of war reparations for defending them. Any monies received should go directly toward retiring debt rather than received as revenues for spending.

We need to find something else to sell the world they cant get anywhere else but from the US, raise taxes significantly, or rework entitlements for the future unborn citizens.

Our military capability is obviously unrivaled, cant be purchased anywhere else in the world. But we dont export it. It should be exported as a service without exporting the technology. Exporting Agriculture and military might is the way the US rebuilds its standing in the world and re-balances its debt, imo.

Much of that involvement we brought on to ourselves... Iraq and the current conflict being good examples. I've not seen a coherent argument that just cleaning out Afghanistan and leaving Iraq alone wouldn't have been a better idea after 9/11. Lots of our guys hurt and lots of money spent to remove a strongman who didn't have WMD and had no involvement with the towers. He wasn't a good guy at all and I have no sympathy, but he would have continued to clamp down on other sources of terrorists while in power.

And... Let's face it... Neither the Dems or Repubs would have spent that money on debt reduction.

The US has long needed to boot the UN from our shores. An absolute joke of an organization…

The Iranian Regime:

>killed 1 million Iranians since 1979
>murders critics of the Regime
>denies women basic rights
>bankrolls global Islamic terrorism
>allows child marriage and child rape

The UN:

>puts them in charge of human rights, women’s rights and anti-terrorism policy

Having created it, leaving it in control of the scum now running it would be unwise.
I would rather they adopted a measure of voting based on what share of the budget each member state provides the UN. If Country X provides 25% of the funding, they get 25% of the votes in the GA & UNSCR. If Country Y provides 0.00001% of the budget, they get 0.00001% of the votes in the GA & UNSCR. That would solve a lot of problems.

NEW: Clarence Thomas — full remarks on progressivism, its foundations, history, and impact from his appearance at University of Texas at Austin:

“Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and Mao were all intertwined with the rise of progressivism, and all were opposed to the natural rights on which our Declaration is based.”

"Many progressives expressed admiration for each of them shortly before their governments killed tens of millions of people."

"It comes as no surprise that the progressives embraced eugenics... It was only a small step for Wilson to resegregate the federal workforce."

"It was only another step for the government to launch sterilization programs on those deemed by the experts of the day to be unfit to reproduce."

“European thinkers have long criticized America for remaining trapped in a Lockean world, with its weakened, decentralized government and strong individual rights. They say our 18th-century Declaration has prevented us from progressing to higher forms of government."

"But we were fortunate not to trade our Lockean bonds for the supposedly enlightened world of Hegel, Marx, and their followers. Fascism, which after all was national socialism, triggered wars in Europe and Asia that killed tens of millions."

"The socialism of the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China proceeded to kill tens of millions more of their own people. This is what happens when natural rights give way to higher-good notions of history or progress, or, as Thomas Sowell has written, the visions of the anointed."

"None of this, of course, was an improvement on the principles of the Declaration. Tocqueville's Democracy in America is largely about how America owed its superiority over Europe to its conscious decision to reject central planning and administrative rule, root and branch."

"Progressivism, in other words, is retrogressive.”
