I think most people have it wrong when they try to pin Trump getting elected on anything other than Obama denigrating blue collar white people for eight years and the capitulation of our government to LGBTQ minorities under Biden; but it all starts with Obama. If Hillary had been elected, we don't get Trump.

To tie it back in, the decline of the middle class may, or may not, be a real thing; but, for those of us squarely in it, life is really, really hard right now.
Literally the Democrats nominate anyone but Hillary and we dont get Trump...

literally, the people who voted for and continue to support trump don't vote for or continue to support trump and we get none of this.

neither hillary nor "the democrats" were holding people down playing "why don't you stop hitting yourself". no one forced people to vote for trump. they did it of their own free will.

True, but in the realm of politics Trump was still considered an unknown candidate having no track record despite his boorishness. Hillary had her own track record coupled with her husband's and people hated them.

I will maintain the party with the known quantity good or bad has more leverage to turn the election. At least in state and local politics this has been the conventional thinking for a long time. People rarely vote for someone and vote against something they either know or perceive. Incumbency isn't just currently holding office. Its the power of being the known quantity.

The Democrats being honest with themselves cannot say the known reputation of Hillary among swing voters and the unknown of Trump would carry the election. The Democrats made the bigger strategic error.

the fact that he was re-elected in 2024 with even more votes after he was a known quantity sort of points to the problem

The statement heard repetitively from Trump voters back then and this past election were, "I'm voting for the lesser of two evils". Dems put up a competent and more likeable candidate and results would more than likely be different.

I didn’t vote in 2016 for the 1st time in my life.

Anyone but Hillary and I probably would have.

I’m in AL so it doesn’t matter one way or another.

If I had been in a swing state and knew just how horrible Trump truly would have been I would have held my nose and voted for Clinton though.

Alot of people felt that way and sat at home.

But l don’t buy that.

Do you really think Biden beats Trump in 2016? Let’s be honest and even some of his friends admitted this: Biden only won the race in 2020 because everybody had to stay at home and so he did not have to go out and campaign. The obvious decline in him was not overly visible because he was really only seen as he could be packaged.

Look, Hillary created most of her own problems as a potential leader, yes, but I’m not sure l believe the “well anyone else woulda beat Trump”, either.

Hillary would have been on the defensive automatically in the first place simply because the democrats had been in the White House the previous eight years. Notice that has nothing to do with any negatives on her part at all.

Think about this: since 1952, ONLY ONCE has a political party won 3 straight terms in the White House (Reagan then Bush). And part of that is our desire to hit the reset button in this country. And Bush was 17 down in August 1988 despite being - or maybe because of being - the best known name in the race.

Hillary was never down in the polls like that in 2016.

I'm 51 and I'm just now discovering that Metamucil is one of the greatest things ever. I take it 3x/day plus a probiotic every night. By 7:30 the next morning, I do my bidness and don't even have to wipe. (I still check with a little bit of TP to be 100% sure, but 99 out of 100 times, that paper is still as white as the driven snow.)

i knew more than a few folks in 2000 and 2016 (not the same folks mind you) who were of the "i just want to shake things up and get some different ideas in there" mindset. i also knew a few who thought hillary would run away with it anyway in 2016 and didn't want to sully themselves by voting for her.

I believe the voter base is literally screaming at the Democrats give us a normal liberal candidate to vote for and we will vote for them. But they cannot find it within themselves to do it.

I think the football analogy is appropriate here. If the opposing team is running it down your throat its your job to stop it.

Hillary's elitism forced upon us, Biden's incompetence, Kamala's oblivion. Voters dont want the Democrat version of Trump. Given us an adult to vote for...

Skip the primary and just hand the nomination to Bill Maher. He would probably run away with it depending on who he's running against.
