Abigail Spanberger and the Virginia Democrats.

This is a seperate issue from redistricting, but I do find this disappointing.

Virginia Passes Bill Requiring State Agencies To Discriminate Against White Men

I do not understand why the Democrats cannot abandon racism and sexism and just move beyond. They seem addicted to racism and sexism.
I seriously doubt this law will stand once a federal court gets a hold of it.
that’s quite a sensational headline from the federalist. there are programs like this all around the nation

It is a sensational headline, for which I apologize.
Still, a law that gives any advantage to one candidate over another based on race or sex is discriminatory and runs afoul of the equal protection clause of the XIV Amendment. Sixty years ago, there was a legitimate societal reason for these (although, even then, they was unconstitutional), but those conditions no longer apply.

To the extent that such programs exist elsewhere in the country, I suspect they will be legal challenges.

"That is unconscionable. Can you imagine if Alabama had drawn a new map with only one majority black district? It would be easy to do.'

They did! Where do you get your news? Dems had to take them to court and even our slaver overlords were too red-faced to let it stand.
So when, after losing a seat, Alabama attempts to replicate the previous map (1 majority minority district, and one with a thin white majority), but fails, they’re slaver overlords.

But when Virginia takes a 55/45 split and turns it into a 10:1 allocation, it’s a perfectly justifiable pre-emption of Trump’s future actions?

Virginia State Senator Lamont Bagby explains how he knows a little bit about rural America:

“I grew up watching The Waltons. I grew up with Opie. I even watched The Dukes of Hazzard!”

Well there you have it; never doubt this man again.

Well, I learned about black America by watching "Good Times" and "Sanford and Son."

Just imagine the fallout if a white Republican said that.

Or even if he had the audacity to include (gasp!) "The Cosby Show."

I grew up in North Alabama. Live here now. I remember the Klan in the streets. When you grow up with things that have been a certain way a long time and you are brainwashed to believe "It's just always been like this", you belive it until you're older and you start to wonder why you believe that obviously women are stupid and look at all the astronauts and engineers and government officials: all white men. Has to be because they're the most qualified, right?

I thought things always gradually got better since I lived through desegregation and women like my mom being able to have a credit card and bank account in her own name and even own property! Kids weren't routinely birthed stillborn like my mother's older brother and I didn't die of an easily preventable childhood disease at the age of five as did my aunt Catherine. We had penicillen and you didn't have to worry so much about gangrene every time you got a slight cut or dying from a fever from a bacteriological infection. Since my mother was born, everything has gradually gotten better for me and mine every year. For 85 years!

But then you read history and you find out things can backslide. My grandparents were doing well and then the Great Depression hit. You find out that just because the South lost the Civil War, that didn't mean the Slavers disappeared. No, they came back by force, not votes and they have been in power since at least 1901 in Alabama. With most white support. Even though they starve our economy and deny us healthcare and don't prosecute companies who bring cancer to our children. Not to mention refusing to give us overwhelmingly popular and beneficial things like decriminalizing marijuana. Gotta fill those Private Prisons and concentration camps. All while depriving our children an education lottery.

We're not as Red a State as the propaganda would have us believe. Oh yeah, we're maybe 50-50 but Siegleman had to be jailed (ok, he was a crook but the PTB today make him look like a saint!) to keep Alabama from electing him. Karl Rove figured out it would take only $10 million to buy our (the Alabama) Supreme Court. A pittance for a whole State!

Still, we're still firmly in the grip of Republican power and they see no real need to delegitimize themselves further to run up the score. Although they are sorely tempted, as we've seen. They're just too scared to defy their own Party's Court. As of right now. Fig leaf, you know.
