Cignetti is like 65.New money arrogance..................when the worm turns and others catch up, they will go back to where they were and Cignetti will head on to greener pastures
This is most likely his last stop as a coach.

It was discussed a few times how little IU practiced and how much they studied film etc. I think they indeed looked for every edge off the field, they likely took the scouting to another level. I suspect they used AI to chart probabilities of formations, plays, personnel, signals, tells, etc and drilled their players on it. Their defense was in the right position 95% of the time such that a mature 3* player can be in a winning defensive position, because surprise has been minimized.
I suspect you study an opponent enough tendencies can be reduced to will-dos. Its this kind of cutting edge scouting with limited NIL resources and the spreading of talent across teams that will define the winners in CFB going forward. And its way cheaper than just chasing after the most expensive players. Moneyball.
People shouldn't take Cignetti disclosing they don't practice long, with still not getting in the work necessary. You've got coaches long before Cignetti that ran "shorter" practices but still structured the practices where they got the same number of reps. It just takes diving into your practices and identifying waste and cutting it out. I did this with my travel baseball team this season and it has produced excellent results. Last season we'd practice two (sometimes three) times per week. I noticed half way through the season the boys were "tired" and seemed fatigued. After each season, I always do a post season "inventory" and assessment. As I was doing that I realized I was over practicing the team and though we'd start the year out strong, we'd start to fade about mid season. So, I started reaching out to coaches from highly successful teams (those willing to talk at least) and picking their brains. Though all of them did a lot of things differently, one of the things that I noticed was, ALL OF THEM practiced less than my team yet still held a high level of success for an entire season. So, this past season I've cut back on the number of practices to one time per week and when we have weekends off, I practice them one time during that weekend. It has forced me to maximze and "cleanup" the practice time I do have and be more efficient with everything. The results have been undeniable.
I so hope they implodethey have been so humble since winning.
I still remember that ND championship game. The O Line was telling them the next play. And they couldn't stop us.This was a point of pride in the early Saban years at Bama. We're going to line up, you're going to know what we're about to do, and we're going to straight up beat you because we're so much better than you.
We got joyless murderballed, sir. It was both sad and wonderful to watch. I thought that was long gone. Too bad it wasn't us doing it.But they were starting a whole boatload of fifth year 3-star dudes who had 100% bought into a cignetti-led culture of practice-to-perfection to the point that they executed relatively bland football absolutely flawlessly. And flawless bland football tends to trump mistake-prone supercar football 90% of the time. Mid-season onward, I started telling people that Indiana DOES NOT beat itself. It does not make mistakes to exploit. It plays each run-of-the-mill play PERFECTLY. So to beat them, you cannot rely on capitalizing on any mistakes. The only way to beat them is to play nearly as mistake-free as they do AND hope your 4 and 5 star sophomores and juniors can out-play their 100% bought in fifth year seniors. That’s a tall order, to check both those boxes.
This is all you need to see. When this is your play call on 4th and 3 in the first half:I agree that their DC seems to have misinterpreted Ty’s comments and was overly defensive in his response.
That said, they smashed us like a grape and completely humiliated us.
Quite frankly, they can say whatever they want.
It’s up to us to get better and tougher so this kind of thrashing doesn’t happen again.
Until proven otherwise, we’re a soft team that is often unprepared, outcoached and outplayed…even in some games we manage to win.
That is 100% on us and no one else.
So I was just on another thread and it feels like Déjà vu…just making sure you know this is an Alabama board…we love all opinions and are hugely open to conversation…but unsolicited sunshine pumping for another squad will usually get you some push back…how bout give us a Roll Tide!?!? Great job landing the new QB!!! You know…something about Alabama? Now it's back to one hit wonder, too much trash talking, and too old?!!?
- First it was "Cignetti talking 'OSU and Michigan sux' trash." And it was: Oh boy - non-P4 coach now made Michigan and OSU mad.
- Then they were 5-0. So it was: It'll never last once they play ranked teams or UM/OSU.
- Then they beat a ranked Nebraska team by 50-ish points and beat Michigan. So it was: They'll never make the playoffs.
- Then they made the playoffs and lost. And it was: One year wonder that won't be back. So they made the playoffs. Again. And undefeated this time.
- It was they still can't beat a top ten team, And they beat #9 Illinois by 60 points.
- Then it was big money donors. Until the truth came out that they were a mid at best funded team for the Big Ten, even during the past season.
- Then it was: They can't beat a ranked team on the road. Until they went to #3 Oregon and gave them their first home loss in years.
- Then it was they can't beat Ohio State. But then they beat Ohio State on a neutral field.
- Then it was they can't beat an SEC blue blood. And they did; 38-3.
- Then it was they can't beat the same top ten team twice in one season. And for the rematch with #5 Oregon they beat them by 34 points.
- Then they were too old. But their championship game team started two sophomores, two freshmen, and a bunch of juniors. The Miami team they played in the championship game had an older average roster age, and Ohio State had about the same (avg 2 months younger) roster age.
This is a mid-budget team in a conference with multiple blue bloods that over two years is 7-2 against PSU, UM, OSU, Bama, ND, Miami, and Oregon. And they are undefeated in every other game.
A Cignetti story: in his first year at IU, 2024 they had yet to play or win a conference game and went to UCLA. Pre-game, Cignetti stated "We're just going to an old stadium to kick somebody's ass." (compared to Haines calling Simpson "adorable" that's pretty spicy) They won 42-13. After the game he said "We got to the hotel about eight o'clock at night, ate our meal, went to bed, woke up, played at 3:30, kicked their ass, and came home." UCLA and their fans vowed vengeance! The next season they beat UCLA 56-6.
The reason all this is happening is very VERY likely because the coaches speak their mind, shut out the outside noise from their players, coach and develop the three star guys they've got, and execute on the field. Those things are absolutely sustainable. They have the whole staff back, and seven defensive starters and four starting O linemen returning.
To think that other teams weren't already noticing them or preparing for them at their highest levels is lunacy. Betting against Indiana making the playoffs in the season to come is lunacy.

Come back and see us after the upcoming season and let's revisit. Now it's back to one hit wonder, too much trash talking, and too old?!!?

Why would you, a non-mod, try to shut down a narrative or thread that others are quite willing to discuss?100%.
Just thought this thread about a team we played 4 months ago was beneath Bama and tried to shut down the narrative.
Bama needs to act like and be the windshield; not the bug.
Your coach needs to have class, and act like he’s won before, even if he hasn’t.100%.
