Decline of the DNC V

“A travesty, two lives ruined, and what struck me most is that you had an all-White jury,” Rep. Christian Menefee, D-Texas, said when asked his thoughts on the guilty verdict.

The BS never ends with these people.

Scarborough has been crashing out all morning, insisting that the DSA takeover of the Democrat party isn’t really happening, because Democrats just elected “moderates” like Spanberger. (She’s not a moderate.)

Here, Donny Deutsch (correctly) points out that the Democrat party now has a branding problem for “going too far left” that will be used against them nationally.

Scarborough finally, reluctantly, admits the branding problem might be “challenging” for Democrats.

Enjoy the new direction of the party with which you’ve aligned yourself, Joe.

Enjoy it.

What do you guys think? The Democratic brand is already taking a beating with the same 80/20 issues that cost them the presidential election, but now that the socialists is making noise that's impossible to ignore, could this affect the mid-terms?

The first party to sanity wins and it seems both are running in the wrong direction. If Trump had come in and not gone crazy with the tariff stuff, been more targeted with the deportations, meaning going after criminals only, and not gotten tied up in the Middle East the Reps. would be all set for a win in the midterms. The Dems. are gifting wins with the radical wing of the party taking over. Just be a little more center right and you will win. It's wild to watch both parties trying to figure out how to help the other one win.

At this point, the dems would really have to drastically swing to be any worse than the spineless sycophants on the other side of the isle.

Yes, but Trump is mismanaging the 80% issues making this a 50-50 contest in the fall. As with everything else, Trump can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory then convince you that he is indeed winning. He understands there is no money to be made championing a majority position. The money, maximum money, to be made is shorting a near certainty while having the control to jeopardize the near certainty. He's a fixer.

The younger generation sees the absurd impact of the American oligarchs and lack of affordability everywhere. So socialist tendencies are gonna increase, it appears. Lots of support for eat the rich thinking.

Well, it's shoved in their faces constantly. Trump's prattling about his luxury plane, while saying he didn't care about housing. Today's super rich's ostentation approaches that of the French royalty before their fall. It's really a small wonder...

It is painfully obvious that a Castro or a Chavez never appears by accident.

When a society becomes so über-rich, where the gap between rich and poor is ever-widening, where the chance to change the situation becomes less and less possible, people will reach out to a person, party, movement that promises upending the status quo.

Quite often it doesn't work out the way they wanted it.

I remember back in the early 90s, when I worked for Ansell in Dothan, AL. We had a guy working there who was born in Venezuela and lived off-and-on there for much of his youth. He told me stories about how the rich were super-rich and the poor had very little chance of bettering their lot in life.

Thus, when Chavez came to power, it really didn't surprise me.

It was the same situation in Cuba pre-Castro. The people wanted change. They just didn't know that the ones in charge of the change were going to be so horrendous. Castro's coalition included pro-democracy elements, but he saw fit to kill or exile anyone who didn't follow the Stalinist creed.

And it's such a low bar set already - given the number of things, institutions, ideas that have made this country great, yet have been taken a dump upon by this group of fanatical turds we have in power.

That's half the equation, but Dems are also guilty of doing this to themselves. And speaking frankly, I think it's hilarious to watch them pretend to be shocked that they are suddenly losing primaries to these people.
They spent years feeding their own base nonstop poison ... America is evil, borders are racist, cops are fascists, capitalism is theft, and any Democrat who isn’t foaming at the mouth is a corporate sellout. Then they’re surprised when the freaks they created actually believed the crap they were selling? What the hell did these nitwits think was going to happen?

They spent a decade telling young activists that the moderate wing of the party was the real enemy. That the old guard were spineless cowards in expensive suits. Then Mamdani’s people showed up and said, “Bet. Move over.” And suddenly the same Democrats who spent years radicalizing their own voters are crying that the voters are too radical. Case in point: Dan Goldman had the money, the endorsements, the media protection, and the whole “Trump’s biggest nightmare” routine. Didn’t matter. He got absolutely buried. So did Adriano Espaillat and Antonio Reynoso.

Republicans had nothing to do with this and the DNC hasn't been hijacked. Indeed, they handed the keys to the kingdom over willfully, one retarded slogan at a time.

Blaming Democrats for the malignant inequality of wealth in this country has to be the most illogical stretch I've ever read on this board...

My post had nothing whatsoever to do with wealth inequality. I was positing that wealth inequality isn't the sole driver of why establishment Dems are losing their party.

The NY results are worth noticing, but acting like this means “mainstream Democrats are losing the party” is a huge overreach. Mamdani’s people won in very blue NYC primaries. That matters, but NYC Democratic primaries are not the Democratic Party. They’re low turnout, deep blue, activist-heavy races where the left can punch above its weight.

And the idea that mainstream Democrats spent years saying “borders are racist, cops are fascists, capitalism is theft” is simply not true. Biden, Schumer, Jeffries, Pelosi, Whitmer, Shapiro, Beshear, Warnock, Slotkin, Gallego, etc. are not exactly storming the barricades.

The real takeaway is that in some deep-blue urban districts, left-populist candidates can beat establishment Democrats when voters are mad about housing, the cost of living, Gaza, and insiders. That’s real, but doesn’t mean the party has been hijacked.

Then why did you answer my post which was entirely about wealth inequality? My point is simply that wealth inequality gives birth to reaction on the left (sometimes right also). It supersedes both the Democrats and the US. In fact, if we continue along the same path, I expect the Democrats to split entirely. There will be a faction arise and proclaim that they are not going to take it any more. In the past, the inequality arose mostly from inherited wealth and all that goes with it. We've invented our own path to the same sociological status. It happened in the late 19th century and led to almost to civil war with bloody clashes as so much of the means of production were unionized. We self-corrected with the Sherman and Clayton Acts and Roosevelt and the war intervened. Again, my point is about wealth mis-distribution in societies as a whole. The reflection of the resulting discontent in the Democratic party is wholly incidental...

Well, I was conceding your point that wealth inequality was certainly part of the driver of these events, but not the entirety of the reason why the party is evolving to something else. The tweet I posted that started this line of posts was about the Democrat brand. (If you didn't see it, scroll up. It's on this page of the thread.) I also concur with your hypothesis that if the wealth inequality continues, it could ultimately split the party, but again, I don't think that's limited to Dems. Look at what is happening in the Republican party. The civil war between MAGA and the establishment Reps is ongoing and could also result in a party split. People who have been wishing non-top for more than 2 parties may soon get their wish as I can easily see a total of four parties in the not-too-distant future.

A fair point, to be sure, but I doubt I need to remind you just how quickly MAGA took over the Rep party with an eye-popping speed. This thing happening in NY could very easily catch fire and spread, albeit more slowly if it does happen. I still remember skeptical pundits reassuring the establishment on both sides that this MAGA thing will fizzle out just like the Tea Party movement did and things can go back to normal. Needless to say, that hasn't happened.

So silence no longer equals consent? Seems I heard that phrase a lot not very long ago. Establishment Reps were taking a beating in the media and message boards for not standing up to Trump and here we are. Who is to say that the same thing won't happen on the left? Yes, the establishment Dems have shown some restraint and maybe that's the problem: restraint isn't cutting it anymore. Perhaps it's time to denounce the far left? Maybe, but I don't see it happening. Just look what they are trying to do to Fetterman.......

The real takeaway is that in some deep-blue urban districts, left-populist candidates can beat establishment Democrats when voters are mad about housing, the cost of living, Gaza, and insiders. That’s real, but doesn’t mean the party has been hijacked.

Well, I agree that it hasn't been hijacked and I said as much, but my reason why is a bit different than yours. I don't know if the Dems have opened Pandora's Box or if they are developing a containment strategy. I guess we'll know soon enough. When the last of the boomers are gone, I can't help but wonder what either party is going to look and sound like.

Its amazing to me the juxtaposition that I need to continue to support the party of grift and expanding inequality just because another party is highlighting the discrimination of so many socio-economic-ethnic minority groups.

Im just going to let the robber stay in my house... Its blinded idiocy on level never seen in this country. I could honestly not care how a person dresses or who sleeps in whose bed if I cant keep the lights on and keep food in my house.

Its not the just the people in power who need a comeuppance but alot of blinded voters too.
