I give Fine credit (albeit begrudgingly so) for at least owning this and saying it aloud. This mirrors the thought process of nearly all Dems and Reps; they just don't say it. This is what happens when you ask for more honesty in politics and actually get it.

I think the idea was that honesty would uncover people like him, who then would not be re-elected. I don't think folk really envisioned a world where the president's sons could pull the caper they did with the tungsten mine and everyone would just yawn in unison...

As a thought experiment, if the Constitution stated that members of Congress are exempt from laws prohibiting heroine use, or members pf Congress cannot be prosecuted for pedophilia, what kinds of people would seek to run for Congress?

When we allow members to gain enormous personal profits from being members of Congress, we attract people who seek public office for personal gain and people who value above all else remaining in office so they can continue to gain enormous personal profits as the sole objective, not people who want to make life better for Americans. The incentives currently are out of whack.

Members of Congress are entirely too arrogant and/or in denial about their mortality...

I remember one senator who was almost 80 was admitted with AML and noted he planned to be back on the job, no worries at all, who was dead 6 weeks later. Dianne Feinstein was essentially nonverbal and being rolled around in a wheelchair at almost 90 and refused to stand down. Or her handlers refused.

At some point we all have to say our time is done and move along...

There is a race for his seat in November and Massie isn’t on the ballot. The laws about filling a vacancy in Kentucky are a little convoluted but if for some reason they had a special election (which is a huge waste of money and beyond stupid) he’d only be in office for a couple months.

The fact Democrats aren’t self-aware of “we will stand by this guy despite multiple allegations because his accuser is a Republican” at the exact time they’re saying “we’re not like the Republicans, we’re different” is both the most predictable and least surprising outcome.

The mere fact they stood with him on the Nazi tattoo shows they have their own brand of “that Rebel flag doesn’t mean that”.

I’m watching now the immediate revisionism of “the difference in us and the republicans is that when our people are accused of sexual assault, we make them leave, Franken/Swalwell/Platner!”

Hogwash. Each of those was a political calculation that had nothing at all to do with sexual assault.

It’s almost like that party is full of people who think that because they can get away with something in an Ivy League classroom, the rubes down at Walmart can’t see their hypocrisy.

Platner had flashing signs of what he was when his Democratic manager (a woman named Genevieve McDonald) left him, and they attacked her instead of him. (I know you know this but anyone pretending to be shocked at this latest revelation, quite frankly ought to lose their right to vote simply for being a moron far below the level acceptable the function in society.

“But l want the senate seat” means “I’m just like Trump.”
