Still makes my stomach churn. Prime example of why refs shouldn't be calling games when they have relatives playing for one of the teams. That wasn't just an honest mistake. It was a corrupt call from the word "go."

That one still makes my blood boil.It should of been the greatest comeback in Bama history, if not for the boneheaded call.

I agree with all the sentiments posted above. As I was only born in Nov. of 1982 I have no memory of this. Anyone know what happened on the next play? PSU was offsides and one second left. Should have moved that ball half the distance with one more play left. :conf2:

As I recall, his nephew wasn't just any old player either, he was the one and only Mike Guman.

Bama isn't the olny team to get the shaft at Happy Valley, when PSU was independent it was the worst "homer call stadium" in the country.
Makes me laugh so hard now when I see JoePa running around grabbing refs and crying.

I believe either his son or his nephew played FB at PSU...
The closest I've ever come to kicking the tube out of my television. I had to lay down for about three hours. That one call started us on a total downhill slide.

In reference to the above, yes I think it was his nephew. The same official made a similar blown call the year before that handed Penn State a "win" over Nebraska.

That was just horrible.

I still get sick watching that. The "word" on Walter Lewis was that he could not win the big one. He led a great comeback and won it -- only to have the ref take it away in an inexplicable call. That one wasn't even close...IR and we would have another win. And yes, for you younger folks, PSU was the biggest homer stadium you have ever seen. You had to win by 14 to win...
