You're missing my point. I'm aware of the surface-deep disparity between those two statements. I'm just saying it can be both.
The point is that the hype reaches such a ridiculous level that no one single player could ever live up to it no matter how great that player turns out to be. People talk about Clowney like he's a guy who'll get 30+ sacks a year and who will make or break programs based on who he signs with. Same thing with Randle. It was almost like he was going to average 15 catches and five touchdowns per game, and he alone was doing to decide who controlled the SEC West depending on who he signed with.
It's just all junk. This is not basketball. It's the ultimate team game. You need about 60 good football players, and no one player is ever that good.
Thats all true, but Jadeveon Clowney is one of the most talented DE's Ive watched at high school level....he IS one of those players that would instantly make the other defensive linemen better by being on the field.
Thats what a great player does, they draw attention and allow others to look more talented as a result.
I, for one, hope that before signing day, we can pull Clowney from USCe, and into our class.
will he get 30 sacks a year...absolutely not. Will he improve our pass rush by being a dominant player on the line...without a doubt.
