I'm old enough to remember Apollo 13 as it happened in real time.

Part of my faith was being a child of 11 and not having the remotest understanding of the gravity of the situation. Part of it was the infallible reputation NASA had at the time (Yeah, I know....times have changed. But that's the way it was in 1970).

Regardless, I never doubted for one second that they would get back OK.

I was a bit older and fully understood the gravity of the situation and had many doubts that they would make it back alive. It was a tremendous relief when they splashed down safely. I still had a fresh memory of Grissom, White and Chaffee.

Bobby Whitlock, Derek and the Dominos founder, dead at 77
https://nypost.com/2025/08/10/enter...dies-derek-and-the-dominos-founder-dead-at-77

Started with nothing. Man, they could do it. RIP

I highly recommend watching the home videos that Bobby and CoCo started doing about 4 or 5 years ago. CoCo just asks the questions and Bobby just tells his side of story after story about his musical journey. He's a great story teller and it's easy to fall in love with his personality. I've watched dozens of those videos.

You can find their channel at: https://www.youtube.com/@BW-CC

Bobby Whitlock was a great player and singer, and an integral part of several iconic musical configurations. :)

Gerry Spence, a Canny Courtroom Showman in Buckskin, Dies at 96 - The New York Times

One of the most famous trial attorneys of the 20th century and a proud son of Wyoming, Gerry Spence died Wednesday in his Montecito, California, home at the age of 96, his family says.

Spence was a legend among the trial bar, especially for his civil practice and criminal defense work.

He was known for his defense of the poor and injured, as well as for high-profile cases like the defense of Ed Cantrell in the famous Rock Springs murder case.

Spence rose to national prominence through a series of landmark cases, including a $10.5 million verdict for the family of nuclear whistleblower Karen Silkwood; the successful defense of former Philippine first lady Imelda Marcos; and the acquittal of Idaho survivalist Randy Weaver on the most serious charges stemming from the Ruby Ridge standoff.

Jeannie Seely passed on August 1, two weeks ago today. Her celebration of life service was held yesterday at the Grand Ole Opry house.

No one has come close to her record of 5,397 performances on the Opry. A record that, most likely, will never be broken.

When Scorpio first appeared, that show was a hoot. RIP
