Cignetti built a very good program but he has also had some luck. I believe they had 4 starters on offensive line make every start and only used 6 guys all year. They were selected to be 5th in the Big Ten preseason poll this season and the biggest two questions they listed was a bump up in schedule and they lacked depth at many positions especially on the lines. Well if none of them get hurt you don’t need as much depth.
They only practice 90 min a day. He doesn’t run his guy in the ground in season.

Here's is what i think our staff maybe overlooking that I may give Indiana credit for...

To date, CKD likes to play in space the whole field, it takes elite QBs and range athletic OL and commodity RBs to play that way. That type player is in demand by every top team. But not every top team will be able to sign enough of that talent to have a complete unit rendering it imperfect likely not able to fulfill championship aspirations. Not enough elite DL to fill out an entire defensive front unless you are spending obscene money and even still not likely.

Now, what is available in HS and the portal? A bunch of 0-3 star talent that can manage a game (QB) and play tough and run block. Simply, there a bunch of guys who are the same.

But to make these pieces work you need an offensive system that utilizes them at optimum performance. To me means more play action pro set formations and more focus running the ball.

Imo, if we want to be more effective in the portal we need to change our offensive philosophy. There simply not enough of the pieces we need obtainable. Indeed, the most effective team performance wise might also be the effective cost wise.

I haven’t seen much of a philosophy in place. How long do we have to wait for him to run his philosophy?

We are criminally under - performing so far in the portal. Is he expecting to fill much needed holes with players from the excellent recruiting class?

That’s still a piece of the puzzle, but the portal addresses needs now. Maybe we finish strong there but it’s not looking promising.

You know that he’s regarded as one of the best in the business, right? A lot of folks are upset with the program right now, but we should know why and who we’re upset with and not just blanket label everyone as terrible…jmho…✌🏻
When as stated on this platform by a reliable source who’s a member of the REC, Morgan spoke to their group and said: “We struck out in the portal and you should temper your expectations.” Okay, that was last year. Are we watching Part 2?

Right, do you really want a coach who has to sift through 0-3 star talent? Why is he good at that because the guy has a very unflattering personality and higher rated players dont want to play for him.

The improved NIL is making CC competitive not his recruiting prowess. All those dudes that committed to us back when he was an assistant were not committing because they wanted to play for CC. They wanted to play for Bama and Saban.

Do you really think CC could have landed Julio as a closer? I do not.

If you go review his coaching history, its off the coat tails of his dad and it was all within the state if Indiana small schools

Im going to need to see a lot more before I think CC is the 2nd coming of Saban and able to lure 5 star talent to Indiana...
There’s no one close to Julio’s talent on their roster but man do they play great football.

Your previous post said that you had no confidence in him because he was Harbaugh trained…this has nothing to do with that?
It actually makes me feel better because he’s admitting that while they tried it wasn’t as successful as hoped…no Crimson colored glasses…accountability isn’t very common any more…

It's becoming harder to spin this portal class. This was the biggest get and a couple of the guys that were supposed to be upgrades and make us not worry about who was leaving are already gone as well.

It's not all bad news, but this is why to me there should be more effort to add depth pieces. It can't all be trying to grab or hang into a couple big names that every school wants. Do your homework, go get your experienced 3 stars.

A seven figure salary was paid with zero return? Ok.

Accountability? Sounds more like CYA for a staff that didn't have a Plan B.
