good question. From what I am reading, more NIL will be averted to defensive players esp. on the DL. Carter was a Washington transfer if you recalled. he was 3rd string and saw limited action in mob up duties. if they allowed him to go without a fight is because they believe they have better talent already on the roster as well as the incoming class (Matthews and Howard). for example, Justin Hill who I think has a bright future is only a freshman and he saw more playing time than Carter and that to me is a clear indication where things stand on the pecking order.

I like carter and he'd be good to keep, but if russaw and Pierre stay plus hill coming on, carter's 4th in the depth chart and like you said. More are coming. That said, I wouldn't be shocked if we tried russaw at ilb. He doesnt have the length the NFL usually likes for an edge guy, but has all the measurables they'd want in al ilb.

As bad as our OLine play was this year, if he couldn't get quality playing time this year at Bama, tells me all I need to know about him & bye bye..

or could be lousy coaches

THIS: Jaeden Roberts was the best IOL on this team by far and wasn't a starter and barely played. Literally every time he was on the field, he was clearly the best OL we had out there and it was very, very obvious. There was something other than evaluating on talent going on (or bad talent eval)

Olaus, Fornsby, and that class were recruited by Saban and that former UK OL coach we had. They are too big for CKDs system.

so many people say this, but doing the research, it just does not seem to be true. in the last 2 years at UW they had multiple guys in the 315-325 weight range, one at 340, and most over 310. Even at UW, brailsford was the glaring exception with his lack of size. The guy he replaced due to injury was 300.

Also, reminder that the last group got totally manhandled and abused by UM. They literally got thrown around.

Both our top tier OL recruits brought in by CKD have gained weight up to around 320 (or more) since arriving on campus and the general movement for all the OL weight gains has been toward the 320-330 range. The only exceptions are Brailsford (probably can't gain more), Proctor (don't get me started) and Sanders, who's hovered at 310(ish)

Three plus years into full transfer portal chaos, and it’s still hard for me to wrap my head around treating the players like NFL players, but I guess that’s where I’ve got to get to be emotionless when it comes to roster management. Can’t have feelings one way or another when a player leaves regardless of whether it’s a 3rd string player or two year starter.
Players wanted this. They lived liked royalty before.

It’s a fascinating case of “haves” and “have nots “

Will Bama wait until the portal is closed to start firing some assistants (if they fire any)?
I think there is process of "evaluation interviews" that must be given to all employees before they can be terminated. There is probably a set date for those evaluations to be turned in by whoever is the evaluator. I could be wrong.

When an employee resigns and is replaced is usually different than being fired and being replaced. I'll bet the assistants that left gave their notice, but we didn't know about until later.

It appears CKD isn't moving toward "smaller" linemen, which is fine. He just better be moving toward better offensive line coaching that produces better offensive line performances. It's going to be something if our OL coach remains and no staff changes that relate to the OL are made. Let's me know CKD is going down with the ship and his crew.

If Russaw and Pierre stay, that is a huge plus for our defense.

This would make sense. Defense showed out big time and investing on DL, and maybe OLB as well would go long way for the defense for next year. The offense as a whole isn't really a big issue, just OL. Grab 2-3 OLs and one more RBs (if the rumors are true) Offense all of suddenly upgraded.

Losing Carter hurt.... but lot of people don't realize he got passed up.
