Link: 2026 Transfer Portal

As far as the current portal situation, I am getting a bit nervous as Alabama seems rather slow moving. I wouldn't be worried about that too much except for the fact they let some key offensive linemen and defensive players walk, I'm not sure if they can replace those from the bargain bin.

It does make one begin to wonder if Alabama went a little too hard on recruiting and isn't well prepared for this round. 247 has them as the #2 recruiting class, which is nice but there are immediate areas to address. People brought up LSU, well they still managed to bring in the 12th ranked class even with all that was going on.

As far as the portal, LSU sits at #3 and Alabama sits at #24 with only 5 players. I hope they have a darn good plan in place because in my mind the sweet spot is top 10 in both, with strong emphasis on the portal. Last year Alabama finished 21 in the portal with a strong recruiting class and we saw how that went, not quite good enough and I think some of those recruits are already gone.

So basically waiting for them to make their move because they darn sure need to.

I'm guessing we're just getting out bid on these transfer guys.....and we've handcuffed ourselves on how much we spent on recruits.

Probably looking at a similar type season for 2026.....getting owned on the line and losing 3 to 4 games.

As you said earlier........these folks with that kind of money want a tangible return on their investment.

This NIL stuff is just flushing money down the toilet.
Yep. This is why I don't not understand NIL. Rich people aren't usually dumb with their money. Where is the return on investment? Something smells suspect about all of this stuff.

To me that's part of the problem, this isn't and shouldn't be about just going after big pieces. Teams are lining up for those, you can't pull the trigger fast on some of those anyway.

Meanwhile, all the hidden gems are getting snatched. For instance look at Indiana, sure they made some splash additions in the portal, but they got two unranked guys (special teams) and 7 3 stars.

I don't know the exact numbers because Alabama had a big class, but with the limit moving to 105, and 20 outgoing players, Alabama should have 15+ slots, so it can't just be about waiting on a couple guys...

Who in the world would we hire as GM if we did that? I'd throw the money at Jim Nagy, but he's doing the same at Oklahoma right now.

Quote from that article:
"This guy has not only revolutionized the position but he's also consistently delivered," said one industry source who works with GMs. "I think he's the gold standard."
For those who have not looked through the article, this quote above is referring to Alabama's Courtney Morgan. (I thought it was referring to Jim Nagy until I looked in the article.)

We keep hearing about all this great stuff, but none of it ever materializes. Then when we start grumbling about the underachieving, we’re told that we have unrealistic expectations.

The only billionaire in the state is Yellawood fella.
I know the Culverhouse School of Business at Alabama has produced numerous extremely high net personal wealth individuals.. Probably other disciplines at Bama have, too. A quick search doesn’t specifically identify any of them as billionaires, but c’mon, we’ve got alums and fans who’ve got some jack. Whether they want to support the football program with it is another matter.

The Anderson family is exceptionally wealthy. They own TNT Fireworks, Books-A-Million, and previously owned Hibbetts Sports. Tennessee has an athletic facility named after them. Keaton played for Alabama. They have been known to be very generous. I'd be shocked if they weren't already giving.

Well when you have a WR who was third or fourth in production making 2.2 million the coffers get empty pretty quick...

As far as Alabama and the money situation, no Alabama does not have anyone that can compete with Phil Knight. They can't compete with the top Texas boosters. They can't match Ellison if he gets more serious about NIL. I always said Alabama wasn't well positioned to deal with NIL as others cheered on it's arrival, but they are still well positioned in that second pack of teams.

Cuban's spending? A lot of what we've seen going on, yes Alabama can absolutely hang with those level investments. It's just a matter of spending wisely. I will remind everyone that not long ago Alabama paid 47 million for a golf practice facility. As big a waste of money as NIL seems to be, football actually generates revenue. Golf does not, so they might as well have set 47 million dollars on fire.

Clearly there's money to burn so to speak...

Agreed. Posters keep saying to relax and trust the staff and everything will work out, but call me hopefully skeptical, with more emphasis on the skeptical part.
