I dig. But we got manhandled. We got bullied around. I do not like that AT ALL,
This isn't "If Colt hadn't got hurt" post, although we have done it plenty of times since 2009 when it was our guy(s) who got hurt.

I'm not going to sit here and say it wasn't bad, but it was 10-0 when we were driving in their territory when Ty took a shot that cracked his rib.

And, that TD to make it 10-0, IIRC, was after a bad gamble to go for it, which CKD owned at the half.

When Ty couldn't play effectively in the second half on the 1st drive, that was game, set, match!

All I'm saying is I think we were closer to making it a game than Oregon was. If we put points on the board on the drive Ty gets hurt, we may have still lost the game, but probably not that way.

I think that's what the poster I referred to on X was saying.

People are married to ideas to the point that they are unwilling to accept any counter points. The truth is Alabama vs Indiana was far more competitive than Indiana vs Oregon. Take away the 4th down fiasco and Simpson not sliding and then we are probably going into halftime in a one score game and a healthy quarterback. The second Ty got hurt all hope faded. Oregon never had a shot at any point and they artificially made it closer with their starting quarterback.

Both are blowouts but only one was a competitive game starting the 2nd half
Sorry, I was posting at the same time!

I understand everything you are saying. You are a great poster, one of my favorite. Coach is very good and I support him 100%...until I see what he fields on 2026. He can get this thing going and I really hope he does. But I am not married to him so it is incumbent on him to woo me constantly at this point. He must make adjustments to his staff, his philosophy and portal recruiting. I have argued here that he can make the adjustments but he will need to prove it.

We cant just shut the message board down and wait til next season. We literally have thousands of posters on this board and not everyone is going to be in lock step agreement with their opinions or thoughts. Message boards are cutlets for fans to communicate and its serving its purpose for this discussion. Some people are optimistic and some arent. The board is here to capture both views. (y)

The best thing is to speak your opinion and let others speak there's (within board rules). Not expect one group to not express theirs because its very different from mine.
I agree everybody gets an opinion on a message board as long as they play by the rules.

But one group is saying "wait and see what happens," and another group is saying "while we wait and see, let's assume we will still suck."

When what happens finally happens, then we can disagree/have our own opinions, but there really isn't anything to debate except to wait and see what happens.

I have already said that if CKD swings and misses I'll eat crow. But we really won't know until we see the product on the field next year.

I imagine we offered him what we thought he was worth. If Texas offers significantly more, we let him walk and look for other RBs in the portal.
Fans act as if Bama is lacking RBs on the roster, Smothers was brought in because of his experience and talent finding holes, but he had an effective OL to assist him which we all know is the key! some say he's
a slower Gibbs, maybe but he's not the be all and end all back. Gibbs was special and we can see his talent in the NFL level.
to my point, Crowell may be the most sure-fire thing at RB since King Henry. he's that good and if we can just improve a bit on the OL, the offense will instantly be better and more balance.
AK Dear will have a year under his belt. Riley is a nice change up and we all saw what he can do out of the backfield. Hill is our utility back and had a good season when featured.
btw, don't sleep on this kid. lots of fans are hung up on finding a diamond in the rough prospect, well this kid may fit the bill.

Didn't know about TD...good initials for a RB!

No one is currently right. LOL! We won't know that until next season to see how the team plays. If the team is much better at blocking on the OL, we have a running game, we're not getting out physicaled in games and we're not getting blown out, then we can look back at this time and say a lot of people overreacted. If we see more of the same old, then we can look back and say the peanut gallery was right and the ones who screamed "be patient" were dead wrong. Should be a fun offseason.
I'm having fun already lol. I love this program man. Great to get in here and mix it up with all you guys because this board has the best fans around. Win or lose, we are going to break it down and get to the bottom of it.

AMEN! (and thanks for the kind words)

One interesting tidbit, he has an old social media post where he says he's going to play for the University of Alabama. A couple of the more recent additions also played college football in the state. So there's still some regional draw it would appear.

As to the general topic (not necessarily directed at you, but no need to make another post), I want to be wrong about this. It's a concern, and Alabama could pull a rabbit out of a hat and end up with a great portal class. Reading elsewhere though fans are starting to worry. Right now it's not a good portal class and I have the feeling that if it doesn't finish as a good class the team could be in trouble. I was worried about the running game this time last year, this year I think the portal/staff changes are the key moving forward.

Let me make this clear though, if DeBoer dominates next year and this team looks like vintage Alabama football, I will develop a ton of trust in him. I was ride or die with Saban, I'm not sure I directly blamed him for anything in fact. I'm just waiting to see some consistent greatness from DeBoer and I can't help but believe there are certain keys to that. Ultimately though I don't care how he does it, just that he does.

Either way though, after this portal DeBoer will be out of excuses. Three portals is more than enough chance to make any roster changes you need to make. A couple off-seasons are also more than enough time to tweak the staff. This will be his team and there won't be room to point fingers at inherited players or previous coaches or what not, it's what he's chosen at this point.

Yes. We need results. $10m / year is a lot of resources

The previous staff had him on the bench too, you know the staff with the greatest head coach of all time? DeBoer took a first year starter in the SEC and got to the championship and playoffs with him.

The bolded part implies that the biggest issue you have with DeBoer is that he’s not Nick Saban.

The bolded evoked Bryce Young’s name and seemingly questioned why a Heisman winner wasn’t benched for 2 Freshman.

It’s not a 1:1 comparison.

I think I’m becoming conditioned to moving goal posts at this point.

The Biggest issue I have with CKD is that he’s way in over his head and hasn’t done a single thing to instill confidence that a change or improvement can be made.

I don’t care that he’s not CNS

I’m concerned he exhibits traits that mirror Curry, Dubose, and Shula.

I’m still waiting for anyone to give me some Green Flags.

No one has to agree with my opinion or anyone else’s that are viewed as ‘critical’ but the concerns with this staff are valid and people are giving tangible reasons why.

I understand other people have outlooks based on positivity despite caution signs.

That’s cool but ultimately it’s based upon nothing but having a positive outlook with no examples to back up why that outlook has justification.

In the end it doesn’t matter who likes him or doesn’t like him because we’re stuck with him for probably 2 more seasons at least.

I want those that want to be at Alabama. If so, great. If not, no sweat. His decision.

I'd be inclined to agree here, but the problem is we probably have some lower rated guys that would gladly come to Bama and give their all.....but are we hung up on higher rated kids that are getting courted by multiple big programs?

We have lots of open spots that need bodies....evaluations should have been ongoing for a while now. A lot of guys have already been picked up at this point. We may not have the 3 star guys to fall back on.

I agree that the “stop insisting he be Nick Saban, expecting perfection, you unreasonable spoiled fans” trope is itself unreasonable. There is room for fair criticism / concern.

Kalen DeBoer would be laughing out loud, if any of his staffers told him about this very important discussion by TideFans experts.

If I'm CKD there's ZERO probability of ...
... me telling TideFans people what I'm doing in the portal.
... me allowing my staff to post portal updates on TideFans, or any other forum.
... believing I have any control of what 17 - 24 year-old kids post on their SM about their own portal activities.
... me caring at all what Rocky Mtn Bob (or any of his buddies) thinks.
He cared enough last year to send someone out to say we struck out in the portal and to temper expectations.

Wonder what the message will be this year.

There's a fine line between getting a kid or not getting a kid and we didn't get a lot of kids we wanted. So temper expectations again please and ride this thing out for a while.

Green flags:

- I think we went 3-1 on the revenge tour this year thru the SEC. And turned around and beat OU the second time.

- Beat Georgia a second year in a row in the regular season, at their place - first year people said CKD couldn't win on the road.

- Won the regular season SEC and played in the SECCG against UGA.

- Make the 12 team playoff and advanced to round 2.

- Beat Georgia, UT, LSU and AU in the reg. season.

We did all of that with arguably the worst OL and RB situation we've had in years. And the second half of the season with a gimpy QB.

Them's some green flags IMO.

I think the one thing that could sink his career at Alabama faster than anything else would be if he appears to be bad at the portal. In this era that's worse than not being able to recruit. So the pressure certainly is on, two bad portals in a row and all the pressure shifts to on-field results.

It's kind of like how recruiting used to work, if a coach was a good recruiter you'd try to give him a little longer because he seemed to be bringing in talent. If DeBoer looks bad in the portal, it's going to shorten people's patience considerably.
