The highest bidder gets the player. Texas has far more resources than we do.

Signing a contract doesn't mean that much anymore. No doubt that Texas could pony up the buyout anyways... 🙄
Not always. Some players have taken less in NIL to play for a desired program. As example, Cam Coleman took $500k less in NIL when he signed with Auburn because he had greater comfort with the Auburn staff and it was closer to home.

we gotta get 3 year or at least 2 year minimum contracts asap, you would be crazy not to jump into the portal in the current landscape

I will post a link to something I saw today. Please look at who’s ranked 1st. They’re involved with the NCAA championship game and do not employ a “GM.”

I know where we could save $1,000,000. This is RIDICULOUS.
We’re paying $1,000,000 for a guy to ask basically “what’s it going to take.? Player X amount. Ok, we’ll get back with you. I’ll save Bama $750,000 a year and take that job. Holy cow.
You keep saying he’s never coached…you’ve never been a GM…

I really dont think it matters who we bring in via the portal if we are incapable of getting them better once theyre here. We pay assistant coaches and coordinators literally millions of dollars to do more than just call plays during games and try to convince players to come here. They get paid to make players better once hey get here and that seems to be the biggest problem we have.

Once camp starts and the season starts, when would a position coach have enough time to do player evaluations? Off the field analysts and recruiting coordinators should be doinng player evaluations once camp and the season starts. A GM generally does player evaluations too along with "scouts" or college footballs equivalent which are the paid off the field staff. The GM should be fully invested in player evaluations and if we're not doing that, that may explain Morgan's "temper your expectations " comment because we struckout on the portal.
As a GA and position coach we all did evaluations for our recruiting areas even in season. Ask a position coach if you want insight on a particular guy for their position. It’s why we worked 16 plus hour days. Idk how it is now with NIL though. If the GM isn’t and or bad at evaluating then that program is probably behind the curve. The this current staff has been or at least appears to be acting, saying and working is a little perplexing from an outside view. But I’m trying to hold off judgement until we see how they do in the season. Excluding certain position coach firings, if those don’t happen I will be judging hard.

Every player is in the portal. If they haven't entered the official portal, they are in a virtual portal in which the team staff has to recruit them if they want the player to stary out of the official portal.

Courteny Morgan has stated that player retention is their top priority with regard to NIL. The whole process is a huge juggling act when there is a limited supply of money.
