As a friend of mine would say “at that level, money is just a way of keeping score”.Us working folks really cannot grasp the numbers though. We are talking #000,000.000.00. With that kind of cash then $10-$20 mil really is hobby money.

And something has to change. If you think the rich aren't getting richer -Yeah to put it in terms of time, one million seconds in about 11.6 days. one billion seconds is 31.7 years. helluva difference
Well at least someone is asking questions.

FTC asks 20 schools if agents are following law
The Federal Trade Commission is asking 20 universities with Division I sports programs whether agents working with their athletes are following a federal law tied to sports-agent conduct.www.espn.com
I’d argue that an AA Left Tackle is the second most important offensive player on your team…just behind an AA Quarterback. Surround those two with nine others who are average to above-average, and you’ll have an offense that moves the ball, protects the ball…and scores points. Is dude worth $2.5 mil or more?

Kalen DeBoer should not balk at 5-star OT Jordan Seaton's astronomical portal price
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer shouldn't scoff at spending every penny possible to bring five-star offensive tackle Jordan Seaton to Tuscaloosa.bamahammer.com
More dollars than sense...Yeah, how some of these billionaires have stayed billionaires is a mystery to me.
I'm just waiting to hear that some of these kids are being audited for Tax Evasion...it's just a matter of when.I guess that's something.....that's the best I can say. That's something.
Will it matter when they find out how bad it is and agents and billionaires are doing all kinds of things?
I mean, we've gone from Name, Image and Likeness to million dollar handshakes and guaranteed money.
It was fine when the kids were doing commercials...like Bryce and Dr. Pepper.......or even local ads for themselves. That was how things were intended. Make a name for yourself and profit from that....via endorsement deals or the like.
Now the big money folks are just saying, hey, come play for my team for this amount of money......and/or we'll take care of your family too, give them scholarships or jobs.
We are well past what SMU was doing decades ago.
Kind of like holding a Royal Flush in your hand and you only have $18 left and then someone raises $30...I’d argue that an AA Left Tackle is the second most important offensive player on your team…just behind an AA Quarterback. Surround those two with nine others who are average to above-average, and you’ll have an offense that moves the ball, protects the ball…and scores points.
Put the most $$$ into those two positions, and then fill in the rest as your budget allows.
I read something about this a week or so ago - one of the zillion sports blog writers was asking questions and supposedly was trying to contact someone in the federal government to see if the rules that applied to NFL agents were supposed to apply to NCAA as well. He was assuming that they didn’t since we have pretty much anyone that can write their name on a napkin “representing” these kids. IIRC it was a blog in response to the UW QB debacle. Someone in DC must have answered his callWell at least someone is asking questions.

That must include all divisions?? There are 136 FBS teams with a 105 man roster limit. That's 14,280 total players in all of FBSThere are 10,576 football players that have entered as of Wednesday morning. Of those 10.5K who jumped in, 6,846 are still active and looking for a new team.

In this market I think he is. The issue and this gets into part of the issue with going after Coleman, is a team like Alabama which clearly has a budget (unlike Texas, in which case it's limited by the number of things they want to buy) has to be careful even appearing like they have money. One big spend agents smell blood in the water and players say hey if you can afford that, what about me?
So, when you consider all the potential downsides of a sign like this, I think you might be better off breaking it up until multiple lower profile buys. It rocks the boat less, it fills more needs, you're not putting all your eggs in that one basket. I'm just not sure Alabama is positioned to get into high profile bidding wars, they're not as poor as some people seem to think, but their funds are finite.
However, if you're one or two players away from a championship team and you know it, and he's one of those guys. You pull the trigger right? Assuming you can afford to hold things together.
That's how free markets always have been. There are TONS of things in our society that don't have one thing to do with anything someone needs but people are willing to pay a ton of money for. That's a list at least a mile long. The problem is there is NO reasonable or realistic way to adequately evaluate the true market value of a player, including Seaton, when the market is driven by billionaires willing to pay outrageous sums because their egos and wallets are bigger than their brains.
Literally the market is “whatever someone is willing to pay”.,
The portal is open to FBS, FCS, and Division II players. There is, I believe, an additional 10,000 + players at FCS.That must include all divisions?? There are 136 FBS teams with a 105 man roster limit. That's 14,280 total players in all of FBS
Which why I believe the clearinghouse system is doomed to fail in this situation. It will be difficult to determine a true “fair market value” when the market is driven by a handful of super wealthy. That's how free markets always have been. There are TONS of things in our society that don't have one thing to do with anything someone needs but people are willing to pay a ton of money for. That's a list at least a mile long.
This is one to keep eye onHere it is 3 days before the portal closes and 29 guys entered today so far, including this guy:
