Have we really had that guy since Brandon Miller?

Imagine if Miller would have been on this team???

I think that's CNO's next big thing. Have a roster like this years that's solid and deep top to bottom but to find that one special guy like a Miller or Flagg.

We might only wonder if we could have pulled/paid AJ Dybantsa in this class???

I'm not saying it'll take the kind of player to win it all. It didn't work with Duke/Flagg this year, but it should make it easier.

Concerning that kind of player in the portal, I'm with you: "who's out there with that kind of game???"
Fair point. But at least with Sears (and Nelson at times), you had someone who would drive to the basket and draw a foul, score, or set up a teammate for a score. And take the pressure shots. We don't really have anyone even like that at this point for sure. I'm sure Oats will take care of it, but I thought they would have gotten someone like the kid from Kennesaw St. or the Dent kid from New Mexico. Someone who is used to being the guy on their team and then see if that can translate to Bama and the SEC. That's what Tennessee has done the last two years with Knecht and Lanier.

You need a tweener someone who can play in and out game and ability to impact game at all level. Doesn't need to be legit shooter but does enough on both side.
That's a better, more descriptive version of what I had in mind. Maybe Stevenson can be that person next year. Maybe.

No news out of Reid would normally seem like good news, BUT there was a formal announcement of the 4 that were confirmed as coming back. Not getting the same announcement out of Reid, Philon, and Stevenson seems like they're all in play to possibly not be here next year.

Expect all to try to get draft grade and see what they would need to improve on. Hopefully we aren’t offering Stevenson much money and put it towards the other two.

I'm not holding my breath on Stevenson to ever materialize in the Bama offense. I thought what you thought this time last year and I was anxiously awaiting to hear he'd return.

I'm close to angry about it, because I can't tell you how much money I could have made playing basketball if I would have had his size and physical attributes.

I put that in blue because "who knows" but I would have loved to play in college at a high level and see what happens with that kind of size!!! 😁

I wouldn't worry about Reid.
Just let Oats work the roster. You saw what defense looked like last night and that's what Oats want.
It's all probably being "worked."

Key players there are Philon and Reid.

We know what we have in Philon but he's the kind of player the NBA salivates for and he's shown enough to probably get drafted, but it just depends on how high. For him, it's probably about how much NIL he can make if he returns that might allow him to have a true "break out" season next year in order to be a lottery pick and make the big bucks in the NBA. He's gonna get paid one way or another!

The Reid sit. is more uncertain. He only had a few flashes all season long. I think it's because of his injuries that he never flourished. But he was considered a one-and-done but that didn't materialize in the way we thought. I thought he would have eventually started and showed out. And if his health would have allowed and if his offense would have ever materialized I suppose we would have seen far less of Stevenson.

Stevenson? IMO, "bye."

Reid did take standing Stevenson’s starting spot for a short time but then his long string of injury/time out and we got stuck with Stevenson again. I just can’t imagine paying him over others.

I was saying I'm not concerned about Reid ... As of now. Stevenson.. I don't care if he stays or not .. imo he needs another year of coaching. People can make progress form year 1 to year 2.

This was Stevenson's second year. IMO, he regressed in year 2. If he comes back for year 3, I have zero expectations.

IOW, I'd be looking for another portal transfer to give his spot to.

I hate to give up on Stevenson so soon. I know he hasn't progressed as well as we'd hoped, but his potential is way too high to let him walk just yet imo. He has shown flashes of brilliance at times, so I think we should give it another year. If he goes another year without progressing, then yeah, we should let him go at that point, but not right now. If there's a high level transfer that's ready to be a major contributor that wants to come replace him, then maybe, but if we're just going to get another role player, then I think I'd rather just keep Stevenson.

It's probably obvious why I'm not a high paid basketball coach.

I have nothing personal against the kid!

I just don't see the fascination CNO has with him. He got way more PT than I thought he deserved. Outside of a random good drive and score OR an occasional 3 (I'm afraid to look at how bad his percentages were) I never thought he helped us while on the court. Someone observed that he plays off balance and stays on the floor almost as much has he does on his feet. It's just a weird situation with him and the amount of trust he has gained with CNO (even started several games this year).

CNO should just bring in Primo and Davidson to talk to Philon. They were both 1 and done guys that were big time recruits that showed flashes as times but were not ready for the NBA. Now both are just struggling to hang out to an NBA team and doing the G league thing. Primo at least got the guaranteed contract though not sure he kept it after his sexual misconduct issues. Clowney also hasn’t done much so far but that more injuries.

Stevenson is NOT ready for the NBA! He is weak and needs to drastically improve his offensive game. He may stay at Bama or transfer.

Reid has the body but did not get the minutes he needed this year due to injury. Personally, I think he needs to come back for another year under CNO.

Philon showed flashes of being NBA ready but is so inconsistent with his play. He really struggled in the 2nd half of the season at times, especially with his shot. Don’t know if he hit the freshman wall or what. I agree with a previous poster, one of our one and done guys need to talk with him.

No matter what these three decide, I wish them well.

Clowney started pretty much all season and a good bit of last season.

He was fantastic in the SECT against KY, then it felt like he disappeared the rest of the post season.

Stevenson has been a bit of a failure in CNO system for whatever reason. He has the athleticism, speed, length and defensive ability. The shot is lacking and I think he gets lost during the game sometimes/ a lot of the time.

He should be thriving in this system, there has to be a mental aspect to what's holding him back. It's probably time to move on from him.

Clowney started pretty much all season and a good bit of last season.
In 2 years he has played In 69 of the possible 164 and started just 24 of those. This year he will start in 20 of the 82 so not sure how that is starting all season. He has been much healthier this year but shooting just 35% from the field. He doesn’t improve that in next year or two he will be out of the league by time he is 25.
