25-26 Roster Discussion/Speculation

In 2 years he has played In 69 of the possible 164 and started just 24 of those. This year he will start in 20 of the 82 so not sure how that is starting all season. He has been much healthier this year but shooting just 35% from the field. He doesn’t improve that in next year or two he will be out of the league by time he is 25.

I'm clearly not remembering things correctly.

Davidson was signed to a two year deal by the Celtics as well.

Once again Oats will have to rework the roster and find a coach.

Outside of Philon, we have 2 spots open. 4 returning players, 3 transfers in, 3 new freshmen = 10 scholarships. Philon would make 11. You can have a total of 13 scholarships so 2 spots remaining.

Fingers crossed the next two guys we get are game changers. We have a lot of production to replace and although some are speculating Bol Bowen > Grant Nelson, etc. I am not so sure about all that. Optimism is nice but we have to realistic as well...

Philon declaring for draft without maintaining his eligibility. I really hate the way all this went down. You mean to tell me Philon, Reid, and Stevenson couldn't have made this decision 3 weeks ago when there were actually good options in the portal? Leaving is one thing, but they really screwed us over by dragging this decision out. There is really no reason for the portal to stay open as long as it does. They should have a week max. If they can't make that decision in a week, then that's their problem. I really wouldn't care all that much if they had done this in a timely manner, but this really puts us in a tight spot.

It would be 2 spots left and maybe Griffen takes one of those spots. He's just a rumor at this point.

Welp, 3 spots available. And the transfer portal closes in 8 days I believe, April 22nd. Got to work pretty fast with no established alpha dogs on the current roster. Some may develop into one, but no one is proven. It's a little scary at this point.

Either way, there's not much left to pick from. We need a point guard, a wing, and another 4. There's a few point guards I like, and I wouldn't mind getting Rylan back now, but there aren't any 4s left in the portal that would really excite me. I'm sure the coaches had an idea this could potentially happen, but it still would have been helpful to know exactly how much money we had to spend. Maybe we could've landed one of the bigger fish if we'd known earlier. Who knows, maybe someone else enters the portal and things end up working out, but as it stands right now, the timing doesn't seem to be great. The length of the portal window needs to be reexamined and shortened, so that it doesn't put programs in such a bind when players wait until the last minute to decide to portal out. Freedom is great, but it should not come at the expense of fair competition.
