I was listening yesterday to JOX around lunchtime when they were discussing an interview with Mike Davis, HC at UAB. He stated his team was a NCAA tournament team this year, that if everyone (Vaden) returned next year they were a top 10 team that could make the Final Four. No hesitation from UAB's coach as to his expectations.

The commentators compared that to recent Gottfried comments concerning the state of the AL program and how they were playing hard, and were close, and its a process etc. It was telling and sad.

The process doesn't take 10 years. Good coaches don't make excuses they find solutions. It's called leadership. UAB has it. Bama does not.

Hear's to change...and hope.

Although Davis lost the Indiana job he did a pretty decent job I thought. And now he's doing a great job at UAB.
The biggest thing is he instills his own competitive spirit into his players. They play hard and determined, and it's obvious they love to win and hate to lose. And you better believe they play defense.
I've always said a team will ultimately adopt the personality of their coach.
If you look at our team objectively and really think about it, our intensity level is pretty similar to the man on the sideline. Not very intense.

I prefer my leaders to not openly question their abilities...

Mike Davis will make a winner of UAB, no doubt. If we continue on the same path (no major changes) for a couple more years, he will be drawing the cream of the crop in the state. For some reason, athletes like to play for teams that win. If that happens, it could take many years to overcome.
