A Q about polls

I have been a fan all my life(of UofA football)but only started paying attention until about two years ago.

If you're asking about the top 25 polls; they take a final poll of the season after all the bowl games have been played.

Like,what is the poll that counts the most or effects the rankings the most?

The AP and coaches polls are the two main polls. After the 8th game of the season, they release the BCS poll, which ultimately decides the National Champ and what teams will be playing in what bowl.

Any poll is going to have to be looked at and taken with a grain of salt. You can always question the selections of where the teams are. Personally, I think the coaches poll is the best gauge on how good a team is.

The AP poll is pretty much meaningless. The BCS poll takes into account the USA today poll, the Harris poll and the numbers.


But now the AP poll is just there to make people feel good or bad.

The only reason I would say it's not meaningless is when it comes down to a controversy. You may have a BCS champ and an AP Champ.

The BCS also doesn't make a final top 25. When teams like to brag about how high they've finished over a certain period of seasons or something like that they are usually referring to the AP poll. The BCS poll isnt a top 25 at all. Its just used to determine the top two for the title game and then which teams might get at large spots in the other BCS games. After they determine that the BCS poll goes away until a little past halfway in the next season.
