Remember the night we beat Florida in the SEC Championship game with that wonderful last minute TD? Did any of you ever in your wildest dreams EVER think we would be entertaining hiring Steve Spurrier?? What price glory?
RTR

Personally, I still loathe Spurrier. Ive never liked him and never will. I dont like his coaching style (intimidation) and the way he runs his mouth is very low class. I cringe at the thought of Spurrier at Bama, and I think he would bring us down a notch or two on having class.

Like him or hate him, he is a winner. Period.

And no, I never thought we would be considering him. I like it though.

Some of Coach Bryant's detractors might have said the same thing about him. He use to poke at his opponents every now and then, especially the Aubies.

Coach Bryant was the epitome of class to us :BigA: fans.

But, hey, to each his own.:BigA:

I would have laughed and doubted it...even now I have a hard time thinking about him on OUR sideline, but I could get used to it real quick. He's a proven coach and I'd welcome him here. BUT, I'll believe it when the suits are at the podium.

No, I never thought Spurrier would be a candidate. It's not a bad thing that he is though.

My two pennies on this (for what it's worth):

IMO, he was an (expletive) at Florida, and he's an (expletive) now at South Carolina. I think that if he's hired at UA, he'd still be an (expletive) ... but perhaps Bama would be doing better. If Spurrier is what's good for the school and for our team, I'd support the University's decision to hire him.

(I won't LIKE it, but I'd stand by their choice.)

Never in a million years.
That was my freshman year at Alabama. I guess I was young and naive.
I have a T-shirt from the 1st FL game that year. The only reason I bought the shirt is because it had a quote from Spurrier on the back. Something about us beating the pants of them.

If someone came on this board 5 years ago and said that Spurrier would eventually be a candidate to coach at Bama with Bill Oliver as defensive coordinator no less, they would have laughed off the board and banned.

Now, I must say that I would love if it happened, even though I think Shula should have gotten another year.

agreed - everything you say is true.

except for the 'i would love if it happened' - i haven't quite figured out how i would feel. confused, i know that much. :conf3:
i've said every coaching search, we would never hire spurrier....

Sorry to get off topic here, but can we once and for all stop talking about how much class we have? Just what makes everybody think we're so much classier than all the other programs? We sing rammer jammer(note that I don't have a problem with it), we boo our own team, we throw cups(and it's not just the greeks), we show up drunk and continue to drink at the games(guilty here)and have you ever been to an Alabama game where there wasn't at least one person around you that wasn't swearing like a drunken sailor(been guilty here too)? Now look, I'm not saying we're an unclassy program, but we're really no better than anybody else. So who cares if Spurrier acts like a **** on the sidelines? As long as he's winning nobody cares.

I think no one ever thought he would be leaving Florida. As far as him being a jerk or whatever...I think it would be nice to see a coach get angry, show emotion, be happy or anything when it comes to a game. Sometimes I wondered if MS even knew he was coaching against the in-state rival.
