After reading Cecil's Wednesday Morning Article,

I posted this in another thread and after reading the article I've already got much more respect for saban and I'll pull for him with all my bama heart. But you can't ignore facts.

4.5 to 5 million a year . Bama will never get their money out of him. He won when the rest of the league was down. Florida's zook team beat lsu the year they won the national championship. Cutcliff's ol'sis teams played them tough ever year and that's not good if he's still at utk. Let's not forget troy game in 04 lsu 24 troy 20 and uab 13 lsu 10.
I think your question should be how long is it before saban and mm gets bricks thrown though their windows and who will get it first.
I hope I'm wrong but I really don't think ns is our savior.

Stallings on his 94 squad; "their not flashy, they just get it done".

John Stevenson not one to mix words; When ask about Ohio State and his impression of the Buckeyes he said,"SLOW WITH A LACK OF FOOT SPEED"

Jeez Stallingstyle....lets get the dude hired before we do all that...such negative thoughts!!

A winning BCS calibre program income will dwarf any 4 to 5 million dollar a year investment.....it will pay off in the long run....

stallingsstyle, I think that Saban would be a definite step or three up from what we've had as HC. However, I agree with you on expectations. If NS does indeed agree to coach the Tide, our fanbase's already unrealistic expectations will go through the roof. And the man's record just doesn't indicate that he will dominate like many seem to think. Not that he can't or won't. He would definitely have the resources to do that in Tuscaloosa.

That said, I still would love for him to come to the Capstone because he'll bring instant credibility to the program that's been missing since Gene Stallings left. And, even if he doesn't stay for 15 years or win multiple national championships, I do believe that he will take the program up another notch or two.

Down here the Sun Sentinel is covered with the story and their take is "Leaning to the Tide-- Source says Nick Saban 'gone for sure' after Alabama akes offer for coach". They have a chronicled list of his responses to the Bama job question since Nov. 27. Their bashing has truly begun. Saban will not be a popular guy here for a long, long time. I think basically they would look at his leaving, if it does happened, as having been "Franned".

I agree with ou both. One thing though that could be a positive and that is two things. One, if he does indeed get the best two assistants out there. and two, he locks up the borders of Alabama for the Tide like he did in Louisiana. Winning the battle here would do wonders for Bama. Kids here grow up in football and are extremely well coached.

i know i'm looking at this a little biased, but i don't think it's the same when a coach leaves a nfl team as opposed to leaving a college (first off what fran did was worse just because of the situation, and hold the rope and all that)..but leaving a pro team, where the players are paid millions is different than leaving a bunch of kids who you have convinced to stick with it and to hold the rope, and they are there because you convinced them youd be there and stick through the tough times...no paychecks involved. it's different.

I think he's talking with stallings about ex coaches and players of gs that he should hire. I think his starting off on the right foot with talking with the higher-ups. I hope he's going to come in here and bring back stability and give alabama something to be proud of. I know he had some qb inj. at lsu but there wasn't the quality of coaches in the conference as there is now. Maybe Robert Witt will tackle him at the press conference and show him what bama fans expect.

Perhaps the most ridiculous post I've ever read. Someone with Stallings in their name should not criticize anyone for narrow victories. I've also seen the same "rest of the league was down" logic used on other boards when talking about Alabama in the early 90's. One reason that the other teams were "down" during these periods was that LSU and Alabama kept beating them. RTR

Oh, I agree. I don't see this as a Fran situation, either, but the Florida folk down here do. I just went onto a Palm Beach Post sports message board and the name calling is in high gear. Not just of Saban but of us. "Most episodes of Cops are filmed in Alabama or New Mexico...let him go there with his Lil Debbies he fits right in ...South Florida is too classy for him" The funny thing is, several episodes of Cops were filmed at the Majik Mart right down the street from our house. I live in South Florida!

I'm not critizing him for narrow victories and I enjoyed the 13-6 victory over La. tech more than any game stallings won and It would not bother me to see ns win them all by one. I will never critisize no one for a victory, but unfortunatly there is alot of people that will. I really hope he comes for the right reasons for bama and not the 40 million reasons for nick saban. I hope he just don't come here and think about retirement and how to spend his money.

i expect saban to bring instant status to the tide program. he will recruit the right players, and we will get back our defectors. joe schaub of espn, had high praise for saban, and alabama. he said that because of the probation period the program was down, but, now with saban, there will great things again for the tide. he anticipates that saban will bring kevin smartt from the dlophins, and LSU with him as def coordinator, and will probably contact jimbo fisher about coming to bama as well instead of fla state. he further stated that saban left because he wants to get back to teaching young men, and his family wanted to leave. he also told the dolphins owner, if he did not want him to leave he would not. the owner, told him to follow his heart, and with his blessing.
