Alabama Football: XM or Sirius Satellite Radio??

I am considering joining the satellite radio croud as my Christmas this year. I've been thinking about it for several years, so I have kept an ear open to any XM/Sirius news. It seems like I remember hearing that Alabama was currently broadcast on one provider (Sirius?) but the opposite competitor was working out an agreement to carry all SEC games in the future.

Can anyone tell me which provider should be broadcasting Bama going forward?

Also, since I only miss seeing one or two Bama games per year due to work, Bama football will not be the only deciding factor in choosing between XM & Sirius. Are there any current listeners that care to share your feelings on other reasons I should choose one over the other?

Thanks

Sirius carries all of the SEC Games. They have exclusive rights to the SEC. If you goto http://www.sirius.com you can get a Sirius S50 unit for under a $150 and you can record the games. The S50 was a $350 unit. I just recently upgraded. Also you have the option to buy a lifetime subscription.

Enjoy

Sirius carries so many football games (SEC included as stated above) that they often preempt non-sports stations such as Bloomberg, the Catholic channel, etc., to broadcast the games. During the first year they carried the Bama games, 2004, they were still working the kinks out and more than once I literally had to call Sirius and get them to switch over to the game coverage.

My only complaint about the Bama broadcasts is that you never know how much of the pre- and post-game shows you'll get to hear. Sometimes you get an hour of both, and sometimes you get nothing. It all depends on the timing of the games they're carrying before and after the Bama game on the same channel.

All in all, I've had sirius for over three years now and am very happy with it. The sports leagues they carry (NCAA hoops/football, NFL, NBA, NHL, and soon NASCAR) plus the ESPN channels can't be beaten. Most also agree that Sirius plays better music on the whole. The only advantage to XM is Major League baseball, PGA golf, and a few speciality music channels Sirius doesn't have. I'd go with Sirius.

Sirius has the best sports coverage and XM has the better music offerings. So it was a no-brainer for me..... SIRIUS

I have Sirius. It's a toss up as to how mush pre-game and post-game stuff you will get, but in my opinion, anything is better than nothing. Persoanlly, I'm just lucky to be able to hear Eli and the Snake when I live in Texas. They even play the Bama radio adds like Golden Flake and Alabama Power which makes it feel even more like your still in Alabama. Go with Sirius.

I've been thinking about this too. I really miss the game coverage by Eli and Kenny living out here in Texas.

Does satellite radio have a delay on it like normal radio broadcasts do? I was hoping that I could listen to Eli and Kenny and watch the game on television, and it would all be synched up. Of course, even if it wasn't it would still be better than listening to many of the people that cover 'Bama games on television.

There is about a 10 Sec delay. But with a delay and when the game is televised, I mute the Sirius and after watching the play I un-mute and get Eli and Kenny's take on it.

First of all, it is not true that ALL SEC games are on Sirius. Georgia and Arkansas currently have no satellite deal in place, so their games are not on unless their opponent has a deal.

The SEC office is currently in negotiations with both companies for who will get the new deal. There are a few things that have to be ironed out with that. For instance, Sirius to this point has only done deals with individual schools, so this would be their first conference deal. The SEC office is also insisting that any deal must include carrying both broadcasts for a game, so that listeners can choose their announcers. So, any decision contingent on where SEC football will be broadcast needs to be delayed until a decision is made.

I would be wary of anyone who tells you that one provider is better than the other, without knowing what you are looking for. For example, if you must have MLB, then XM is the way to go. If you must have NFL, then Sirius is the way to go. I would suggest prioritizing what content you want and then look at what each one offers.

I actually have both XM and Sirius...Overall I like Sirius better. All the Bama football games, most Bama basketball games. You also get good sports talk like Rivals...Also, if you like Howard Stern, he has 2 channels of his own.

XM has MLB, and they have better music variety...

I had to go with both;) XM has several confrence deals inplace now with the ACC, Big 10, and Big East. Sirus has most of the SEC and a few other coverages. I'm also a huge Saints fan so Sirus offered the best coverage. To keep up with the Braves, had to have XM.

PVR (or Tivo) fixed that issue for me. I hit pause count to 3 and bam, kenny and eli are synced with CBS.
