Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

About what time in the video?

I’m deadly curious, but will have to catch it between meetings.
I didn't really feel like coach was intimating that. But maybe I missed the section? I watched the end presser clip and the speech to the team towards the end. RTR91 was there a specific phrase you felt reflected that to you? I just heard a lot of coach speak. I mean, I would believe that he already knows what he wants to do, I just didn't hear anything that I felt gave that away.

Start about 35:20 and focus on when Saban is talking directly to the camera, not the presser or practice parts.

He explains the lead up to the switch, why they did, and the playmakers on offense.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I'm not impressed by a couple of random deep balls. That was his supposed strength coming out of HS.

He might hit 2-3 in a row but that is probably going to be followed by 7-8 that are under or over thrown and or behind and or over the wrong shoulder.

His ball placement is consistently scattershot.

I hope that he is generally improving by at this point I'm fine with seeing it in the late 3rd or 4th quarters of blowout wins.

Tua is the Better QB. He's proven it for at least 9 months now. He deserves to be the Starter.

I have similar feelings. Jalen's achilles heel has always been his inability to hit the intermediate route at the sticks to convert on 3rd downs. Until he demonstrates he figured that part of the game out, I'm not convinced much has changed.

I regret commentary (opinion) about Jalen sometimes is translated as personal attacks on Jalen, but my feelings about him are strickly related to his play compared to Tua's insane skills. For this very reason, I hope you're right and we only see Jalen late in games when the contest is no longer in question.

I just don't understand why some still feel Jalen "deserves" to start or rotate series with Tua when, up to this point, he's not demonstrated he's improved to being anywhere close to Tua's skill level.

Was reading this morning that "camp" is officially over and that the game plan for UL will start to be implemented. Does that mean that one of the qb's will start to get more reps with the 1's? Will that possibly tell us the answer to the million dollar question?

Unless CNS has decided to alternate QBS, I suspect one of them gets the majority of snaps with the 1's.

IMO, it'll be Tua.

Let’s talk about the pressure of being QB1 at Alabama. I wonder, if Tua is named the starting QB, can he handle the pressure. The week in, week out pressure of talking to the media, having cameras shoved in his face, having to actually think about more than just fighting to get better and playing time. In the NCG he was rolled out there and told to go play. He didn’t get much of a chance to think about the pressure. While I realize it was a pressure packed situation, there wasn’t anything to lose. You are way behind and can throw caution to the wind. He didn’t have time to live in his own head and deal with ‘what-ifs’.

Who says he'll talk to the media every week? Remember, Saban only makes a few players available to the media each week.

During the post season, every one is up for grabs, though.

I think he's handled the media, said all the right things, made it about team, etc, much better than Jalen and his parents have. And yes, I am aware of his comments to the middle school class in Hawaii.

I think Tua can handle it. I think he has a lot of confidence. He's not cocky, but he knows he's a better passer than Jalen. He felt he should have started last season. He's eager to show everyone what he can do. I think Jalen is lacking in confidence right now. I'd be more nervous having Jalen in a pressure packed situation.

Alright, I know most folks are probably a little over John Doe's videos by now because they sort of seem to pile onto Jalen. I'm in the same boat. HOWEVER, he just released a new vid and talks about what he thinks went on with the whole Blake Barnett and Jalen competition at the beginning of 2016 and the history of the program leading up to that moment and how it all transpired. He makes some interesting points.

I can actually link this one because he cleaned up the language (even though I found it hilarious).

He said what many here said after the USC game and were quickly and sometimes harshly shot down.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

John Doe brought up something which I hope people become more aware of. ESPN is doing a horrible job explaining Tua to everyone, they talk about him as if he only played 30 minutes of Football and UGA had no gameplan for him. That is simply not true, I remember hearing rumors of Tua playing in the Clemson game that week and then of course against Georgia. I’m sure Dabo and Kirby knew about Tua and game planned against him just in case.

That was fair, respectful enough, insightful/accurate/truthful = fabulous. I hope he reveals himself and at least becomes a visitor on talk shows, if not more. He has great judgment regarding football and good insight into human behavior. He can say some un-PC things that most Bama fans can't. Finally, he is passionate and greatly entertaining.

His speculation about Blake Barnett and a concussion is reasonable and would explain a lot. He threw some beautiful balls in the USC game.

Kirby explicitly stated UGA did when questioned after the game. Some were skeptical because some UGA players said otherwise. But IMO, a lot of times the coaches are scheming and practicing things about which the players are unaware.

But why were those people shot down? Many had the belief Jalen would continue to improve. That's why posters felt as strong as they did.

As John Doe mentions, things could have been different if Barnett didn't transfer after four games.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

John Doe's best point was "Name another college where Jalen would play and be 26-2".
