Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

And Georgia didn't prepare for that 2nd half offense. We need to see what Tua can do against a good defense that prepared for him. Hopefully, it won't be any different.

Pretty sure Kirby said they had prepared for Tua too. It's been posted multiple times.

Kirby said they did. And, even if they didn't Georgia was one of the best defenses in the country and its not like Tua was getting all the reps with the 1s either. We don't know what Tua can do over a full season, but we know what Tua can do against a good defense at this point.

That doesn't even mention the fact that he tore apart our defense heading into the Clemson game last year and our Defense sees him every day.

Tua will likely have his bumps but its pretty darn clear he is better than Jalen at this point.

Edit: Sorry, I know most of this has already been said. I'm ready for the game

No different than a starting pitcher in baseball. He can leave losing the game but still get the win if his team comes back and wins under the right circumstances.
If it were reorded the way baseball does it, Hurt's record would be 25-2 with the NC game recorded as a "no-decision." A pitcher can get the win if he completes an inning and leaves the game with his team trailing or tied only if the team takes the lead in their half of the inning prior to the new pitcher taking the mound. If he leaves the game tied or trailing before completing the inning he woiuld get the loss if his team fails to take the lead at any point going forward.

Hahah. Yes. Thats why I said under the right circumstances. It has to happen in the bottom of the same inning. However, the stat that has been used in all of football for years is record as a “starting QB”. Well he started and we won so that is the correct stat. Is it a little miss leading. Possibly. However, if he had been even worse and we were down more then we may not have won so he gets credit for keeping it close enough for us to pull out the win.

We don’t have to wait too much longer! I appreciate all those with knowledge respectfully giving us little nuggets. Roll Tide!

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Well it's very obvious which coach wanted to play Hurts. It's also on record who won the Auburn game last year. I just wonder why Saban hires an offensive coordinator if he isn't going to let him do his job. I hope Locksley isn't just a yes man.

Your frustration is understandable but the conclusions you've drawn about Coach Saban and manner of expressing it misses the mark, IMO.

CNS lets them do their job. He does his job which includes the final say on all issues. He did his job last year. Daboll was not a yes man, but he is not the boss, Saban is. They both did their jobs. There was a disagreement and as should be the case the boss/the greatest of all time/Saban had the final say. Daboll knew that and agreed with that when he signed on. Saban is not perfect but he is much better than you think. Much more could be said but I will leave it at that.

I doubt that Locksley is a yes man. There is a chain of command and he will follow it just like Pruitt, Smart, Burns, Steele, Cristobal, Pendry, et al. and every other coach in football does. There can be disagreement and discussion but when it comes to decision time - one man makes it. That's true at Alabama, Clemson, Jax State, Samford and all in between.

Your desire for a certain outcome has blinded you, among other things, to the realities of how a coaching staff should work and in Bama's case, does work. Also, to your view of CNS.

Edit: sorry, no "personal smack" intended.

Aw, heck with it! Send both of them in on the first play. Tua can hit Jalen with a pass out of the backfield, get whatever yardage he can, and then CNS can start with his planned rotation (if any), and the "who starts" narrative can be put to rest.

Yea, Alabama!
Roll Tide!

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I don’t think anyone disagrees that Tua will be the “QB” who leads Bama this year. I DO NOT care who takes the first snap tonight. CNS has a plan. If Jalen transfers he’s just losing out on another championship ring, which may be less important to him than some dream he has of being a pro QB.
I think the odds of the former happening are much greater than the latter. I’ll never wish him ill, but if he leaves I won’t root for him. Football is a team sport, bigger than any one player. Bama has won a few championships with QB’s who were not pro-caliber material, but that seems to be changing; maybe forever, I honestly don’t know. I do know it’s not fantasy to say Bama will be better with Tua behind center, and have a better shot at another championship. We have proof in the last two NC games.
In CNS we trust.

If Jalen transfers without graduating I don’t see how the NCAA lets him play next year without just declaring college football unlimited free agency- but maybe that’s what they do.

Glad it's all settled. This has to have driven Locksley and Enos crazy.

In fact, I know it has.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I wouldn’t worry about a mid-season Transfer. I’d be more worried on if he’d refuse to step in if Tua were to go down. Jones could be a serviceable backup, but I think we can all agree we’d prefer to have a known commodity be the backup.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

All of this was to force Petrino to prepare for both. Who takes the first snap is irrelevant imo. Tua will get the lions share of playing time.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Quick reminder:

To the best of my knowledge as of now the alleged incident is rumor and the details of the rumor are not allowed to be posted on the board.
That is what drew me to this message board. Not a lot of garbage and potty-fingered folk. Very refreshing in this day and time.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Some one PM me the details vof this rumor going around. Inquiring minds want to know.

If something like that occurred, well.......it wouldn’t make another team endear themselves to him...... but I dont think he would do that

I’m not so sure IMO. If he is thinking of his career. Imagine Tua is healthy until Auburn. He would have to play in five games (if Alabama was playing the Sec and playoffs). It would certainly be a tough position to be in for Hurts. But we’ll just hope that the situation never comes up. Man I wished kickoff would hurry up lol
