You just don't say it out loud.

Nobody really had to say it out loud because it was so obvious that Hurts couldn't read the entire field. It was one read and done. This time last year, though, or during the season, if you said that, a whole legion of Jalen fans would tell you how ridiculous and stupid you were.

Everybody isn't. Personally, I wish he'd transfer today. I think it would be best for the team, and give Mac Jones the snaps with the 2nd team.

edit: Unless, of course, he would agree to a position change, but according to the comments by his Dad, that isn't going to happen.

I have been saying this since spring practice and maybe before. It would be best for the team and for Jalen. I also don't want to see him relegated to mop up duty. Maybe his father will step in and force the issue.

I get that you didn't have to say it out loud, but still, it never should have been said out loud. One read and done doesn't necessarily mean he's only being asked to read one half of the field.

Yeah. I get that, but of course, nobody except posters on message boards heard me saying it out loud ever since the middle of the 2016 season. It was the fact that Saban actually said it out loud that might have flummoxed some fans. It didn't bother me that he said it. I thought it was a long time coming, and of course, as noted, it wasn't hard to see anyway, for those that weren't blinded by an occasional nice scramble. The fact he said it actually gave me a little hope that this high school offense might soon be trashed.

Well, and I say "high school offense" but it wasn't really the scheme, and it wasn't the offensive coordinator. The offense was fine all year long, including the title game, when #13 came in the game.

We will see . . .

Given the skill sets of the QBs being recruited, I think we’re watching the dismantling process right now.

Search "Alabama QB challenge, easy pick john doe".

I finaly had time to watch the video. Watch up to about 14 minute mark.

It's worst than I remember!!!

This guy documents what I've said about Jalen since the Tua vs. Jalen controversy started. I even noted it in the fall camp videos of the QBs last year. Bottom line: TUA IS ACCURATE AND JALEN IS NOT.

What I hadn't noticed, that his guy repeatedly mentions is how he overthrows almost every thing on the sideline and underthrows almost everything down the field.

I mean, if you've got to do one or the another at least underthrow sideline patterns where our guy can adjust (like a back shoulder throw) or overthrow post patterns where our athletes have a chance to go get it, but he even has those "misses" backwards.

Again, watched 14 minutes and it's so bad.

And some of y'all think Jalen should still get a "fair" shot?

Like he says, "I'm not mad a Jalen." He's a good kid, but he's just not a good quarterback!

For the first time, after watching the video, I'm in full agreement.

Wish him the very bests, but it's not in our best interest to have that type of play at that position. Give the reps to Mac Jones!

Who can't answer right now, but it was said by staff during the year that they were only asking him to read half the field. He wasn't even doing that...

I watched the video... How did the coaches watch the film breakdowns of his play? What I want to know is how we had to get down 3 scores in NC before we made the change? Kiffin saw what this guy saw half way through 16 and mailed it in for the remainder of the season. Sark saw it after 1 game and left. Daboll was beyond frustrated all season and left to go to back to the NFL. A full blown mutiny was unfolding after the AU game. Recruits were fleeing in droves all throughout last season.

We saw cameos of what Tua was capable of throughout last season and the unparalleled moxie in the NC. Yet here we are, coach allowing there to be a QB controversy. What does coach see or want to see in Jalen that just isn’t there? It’s like he doesn’t want to admit he was wrong about Jalen and the DT/spread experiment. His reaction at the end of the NC was more like a fan than a coach imo. Sort of like a “y’all want to do it your way have at it I will tell you so after it’s over” shock when you’re wrong.

After seeing that I cant understand why we are still debating this.

There's a lot of truth in what you say, though I think you may be overstating the case just a bit. Kiffin would have been gone for a lot of reasons, Sark as well. Jalen's weaknesses didn't cause those departures. Daboll's a pro guy, and his reputation as a recruiter was iffy. So I'm not sure if he would have left or not.

Recruiting was getting hurt, though we still ended up with a Top 10 class.

The frustration of the WRs probably would have led to more than one transfer.

And we did win our 5th NC in 9 years.

Still, I'm on record multiple times as believing that Jalen's towering strength -- ball security -- has become too expensive in terms of missed opportunities, especially against good to elite defenses. He's thoroughly diagnosed, and the best defenses make us one-dimensional with him under center. It's just that only a few opponents have the talent to execute what everybody in the stadium knows they need to do.

The deal is, it's the performances against those teams that delineate a good solid season from a championship one.

Tua won't be perfect. I have every expectation that, as they get more film, opponents will diagnose him as well. But he has such a skill set that they'll never make us one-dimensional because of QB play -- which they do with Jalen. Tua will make more turnovers than Jalen. But he will make infinitely more plays, and we'll have far fewer three-and-outs against opponents that matter. It's a price I'm willing to pay.

While I have no inside information whatsoever, Nick Saban is nothing if not a risk manager. I have to believe he sees that as well.
