Yea, with one of the best defenses in recent memory, and then last year we weren't close with Jalen at halftime..
If Jake Coker or Tua Tagovailoa had been the qb in that game, I bet we'd have an unprecedented 3 titles in a row now.
The others already said it, but the reasons were the defense and a ton of NOTs. This year's defense is not going to be even close to that defense, and the NOTs can't be counted upon.
So I was just listening to Sirius/XM's coverage of Media Days, and GMac asked Coach Saban about this. Well, he first got a smile (I am picturing it in my head that way, anyhow) from Saban by asking how he was going to handle the RB competition. Coach said the same way they handle every competition. Then they moved on to the real question of QB. Coach said what he have already heard about winning the team. GMac asked him what that looks like. Coach talked about both sides playing with enthusiasm, etc. Then he said the interesting part that we all knew but I haven't quite heard from him before. He said you could see enthusiasm in a WR who is running a route knowing that if he does his job and gets open, the QB will see that happen and be able to get him the ball. We all know only one of the two in question fit that bill.
That's pretty specific right there. But it also speaks to the locker room frustration from last year and CNS understanding that can't happen this year.
This is the second comment today that indicates the job is tipping toward Tua.
Wow, love this and love to hear GD talk about QB. He's got great insight for teh position. There's no doubt in his mind what CNS is going to do.

GD: Jalen "had too low of an interception rate."
What many here have said here and think Tua will throw more INTs and that's acceptable because it's part of the game.

He also said he believes Coach Saban will adapt to Tua's game ... We are going to score 42 points can you?
Gary Danielson gave a good interview. I agree with what he said and cannot wait until Sept. 1st! I just hope the team can avoid the injury bug from here on out through January! RTR!
I have always appreciated Danielson's comments when he is on Finebaum during the season. He definitely has the experience playing in the NFL and watching many QBs in practice and in games. As others do I get frustrated when he gets carried away on a targeting foul or other penalty that is going against Bama but that is the heat of the moment.
Great interview. I still don't understand how there are still those who think Bama can win the SEC and the CFPG with a running back at quarterback. I still have nightmares of the Auburn game. That was the worse loss (in my mind) in Bama history because "we" handed the game to Auburn on a silver platter. Then "we" tried to hand Georgia the game on a silver platter too.

Danielson was rather blunt about Jalen: "He doesn't know how to play QB" - he said more but that sums it up.
Definitely a great interview, and it's coming from someone that's spent enough time with CNS and at Alabama's practices that I can put some stock in his responses. Yes, on TV he can be weary at times, but when he's diagnosing or predicting a play based off patterns, it's amazing to watch and listen.
Excellent interview with GD. He confirmed what I felt much of last season about Jalen being intimidated by Tua. Jalen had in his mind that he just cannot throw any INT's or he's going to get pulled so he played it too safe, took off and ran when the primary receiver was covered.
