With a stronger Defense coming back, he might go with Jalen. But he will need more points and early leads this year. Personally I think we win either way.

JMO, but I don't think that you beat Clemson this year with Jalen at QB, and maybe not Auburn, MSU or Georgia. With a stronger Defense coming back, he might go with Jalen. But he will need more points and early leads this year. Personally I think we win either way.
Jalen Hurts makes far more mistakes than does #13. I could list them all, but it's been noted over and over already.
With such a young and inexperienced secondary, and a relative lack of depth on the line, I don't think this defense will be as strong as the typical Alabama defense, at least not early in the season, so we may actually need to score more.
Secondly, when the teams with strong defenses come to play, Jalen Hurts will have the same problems he ever has, and our offense will have a hard time moving the ball consistently. Besides, that, recruiting will suffer for it, and that's the future.
Oh yeah, and Tua will be gone, so he wouldn't be around to save the team next time Jalen can't consistently move the ball or score points.

Gotta love the written word -- the point I was trying to make (and failed) - is that "if we had a stronger defense coming back, he might go with Jalen" -- but since we don't, he won't because "he will need more points and early leads this year" -- and I'm not sure Jalen can do that. But I do think we still will win with either.

To be fair to Jalen, he has won us big games when either our defense was not playing good or we've needed a play to win. '16 Ole Miss, '16 LSU, and '17 Mississippi State come to mind. Now, when it comes to games like Auburn and Georgia last year, it's not like Jalen had much help from the OC, who knows how things would've ended up if Kiffin was still the OC because Jalen had the most success under Kiffin.

If you're going to give him the credit for winning those games, then let's give him the credit for struggling when we lost the games vs Clemson and Auburn, and would surely have lost to UGA.
Tua Tagovailoa had the same offensive coordinator last year as Jalen Hurts did. Somehow, the O.C. got a lot better when Tua came in.
That was the most damaging evidence for Jalen. OC could call any play and he could execute it. Herbstreit even acknowledged this very early in the 3rd quarter.
There's just no comparision between the two players passing skills and ability to direct a downfield passing offense.
Yep, he certainly did. He said something like "Dabo has more of the playbook at his disposal with Tua in the game." Which indicates to me that during Herbstreit's meetings with the staff during the week leading up to the game either he was explicitly told this by a staff member or from his observations at practices. But either way he was right because the offense magically transformed from Clark Kent to Superman in the second half.
Are you predicting Tua transfer to Clemson...that's bold![]()
100%. Another way to think about it -- if hypothetically one of these guys could transfer without sitting out to a rival, which one would you rather play? That was the most damaging evidence for Jalen.
