Alabama QB competition article

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

Oh man, he's having fun now...
Feels a little like piling on.

IDK. He's still a Bama player, I'm just wary of going after the kid too much.

I think Tua is the better option. I think Jalen has given 100% and been a good representative of the university in most situations. I think there is value is watching film to see where someone is coming up short but...

Yea I don't disagree. He's already made his point. While I found it mildly entertaining I also think it feels a little much. Most if not all of those throws he had already discussed (idk i didn't watch the whole video tbh).

I'm not saying I didn't laugh...but I did feel a little bad about it this time.

Jalen is a good kid. He's got the weight of the world bearing down. I'm not against him, I'm for him. Roll Tide.

I agree and I'm a big Hurts fan myself. While the first two videos were very truthful, this one seemed like he was poking too much at him, look, we all know Tua is the better passer, and a great runner in his own right but no need to pile too much on Jalen, that's not what us fans should be doing, and we've seen some bad QB play before, Jalen isn't the first Bama QB to have stints where he's bad and he won't be the last. Like I said, I'm a Hurts fan, I'm a Tua fan, I'm a Mac Jones fan, we need to support all these guys regardless of what the depth chart looks like on September 1st.

Well said. He has made and remade his point! Jalen has struggled at several levels but I believe his coaches and teammates have a high regard for him as a person. There may well be a time where he is desperately needed to play well.

Time for him to move on to something else..... the horse is dead

If it is too painful for Jalen -- think who is to blame. Who kept Tua on the bench and let Jalen make all those terrible throws. Not Jalen and certainly not me. And yes, I do feel sorry for Jalen because he was tryin his best. I would like to see what Coach says after watching these videos.

I had to remove my link and replies. The language was just passable down to the F-bomb in the last minute or so...

He'd probably say that we still won a national title and was a second away from another one. He'd probably say we've won 5 national titles in 9 years with him making those kids of decisions and I'd probably say the same.

I honestly don't care what decisions Saban made last season. We won a championship and both players are still on the roster this fall. Home run.
I'm very curious to watch how things play out now but I'm not going to sit here for even a second and think that I could have made a better decision last year. I defended Hurts for a LONG time last year.

It all worked out at the end, got to see an incredibly story play out in the National Championship game, and witnessed one of the greatest plays in CFB history that didn't involve us losing. Plus the legend of Tua was born that night.

Well, I could have made a better decision at half time in Auburn. Could I recruit and win titles? Probably not. But I do know the difference between a running back and quarterback. At least he figured it at halftime with Georgia.

don't get me wrong on this. but in all honesty i hope Jalen can make a Blake Sims like jump and prove us all wrong. i don't think he will just based on some practice reports but i think a lot of humble pie will be served if he does.

Am I correct in reading your comments to mean you want Jalen to have that jump solely to prove fans wrong and make them eat humble pie?

not at all. i'm just thinking what if. i just think it is similar to the Sims or Coker thing a few years ago. everybody had crowned Coker the starter and Sims became one of the most loved QB's in recent history.

Re: Alabama QB competition article (ALL QB posts here, please)

I think about this qb competition way more than I should, probably to the detriment of my mental health. It’s so obvious to everyone that Tua is the better option by far, it’s not close. He should already be the starter as far as I’m concerned. Then why don’t I trust the best coach in college football, maybe the best in the history of the game to make the right choice? I guess it’s because I think CNS likes to win with a great defense and a serviceable conservative offense and Jalen fits that mold. Add in that CNS may be overly loyal to the point of making a mistake. I think its very possible Jalen starts and until we get in real trouble he may stay in.
In reading articles about Tua, I think he’s had professional qb coaching quite a bit from his early years and thru high school. He has a ton of natural ability but has also worked very hard to achieve the level of play he’s capable of. If Jalen had gotten some professional coaching over the summer, we could at least say he’s given it his best, but that didn’t happen.
Tua and his family (and the team) trusted what has repeatedly been said about “best player starts”, “win the team” etc., and they’ve remained relatively quiet just as Coach likes, not so for Jalen and family. If Tua doesn’t start against Louisville, there will be criticism and questioning from every corner and rightfully so. And there are plenty of potential negatives for the team, including possibly losing what I think may be the best qb to come to UA since the Namath and Stabler days. I feel sure Tua has won the team and we all know he’s not just the best, but likely a rare talent.
I’ve never really liked the qb competition we see every year or so. If a starter doesn’t perform whether in practice or during the season he can always be pulled and replaced. Having a known starter, I think can help gel the team and give reps where they are needed the most. I’m sure plenty disagree. Lastly, there’s another factor that may or may not play-in. If I’m in a competition I only want to start if I’m really the best choice. If someone is obviously much better and more talented than me, I’m embarrassed if chosen and want to know why. If Jalen starts, it will be with him and everyone else knowing he is not the best choice, that can’t be good for the team. I hope I can breathe a big sigh of relief soon when Tua starts.

What if Tua was on campus when Sims made his big improvement? Even as good as he became for us(and I agree 100%, Sims won over the team and the fans with an amazing year), would his improvement placed him ahead of Tua?
