Alabama QBs in 2024, II

So . . . I should take your word that you can't see it over the word of several other posters that CAN see it? Yeah, that makes sense.

lol Come on, I can literally say the same to you except the far majority on and off this board CAN’T see what you’re seeing. I thought they did it like you said originally but I watched the film again and thought about what it would have done to the team and individuals if they did so with an open mind. Came to a different conclusion. Proctor was awful to start the year so a big chunk was on him.

Milroe didn't just do poorly. he was the worst in FBS in holding the ball. Literally the worst - not my stat. That's PFF data.

I'm not sure what CTR could have done differently. Even when CTR adjusted by leveraging flood routes so JM only had to look at one side of the field, JM didn't execute the short throws that were WIDE open. It's hard for the OC to make an adjustment to take off the pressure when the QB is just so unable to be in sync with the flow of the play that he can't/won't pull the trigger to hit wide open routes to the point the D just backs off of them knowing there's almost no risk of JM completing that play. Really, what ability of JMs does CTR tailor to? Zone Reads? nope, JM couldn't read the end so had to take that out. Hot routes? nope - see above. Literally, what to do?

No argument about Milroe holding the ball way too long all year, running into trouble on his own leading to bad sacks and hurting oline. I think he was terrible at reading defenses and hoped he get benched. I was just pointing out after watching again, Simpson did not look ready either and held the ball. and yes hard to be ready without game reps which I was hoping he would get but didn’t. Just think the mutiny thing is way over blown. Instead of still being hard on him without any new data points under this coaching staff no point in still dogging him and pumping an unproven. He helped hold the team together so give him another chance and just hoped the staff finally breaks through to him getting him to a qb mindset. Just a little improvement in the QB and oline goes a long ways at this point. As far as Rees he was very hot and cold and I don’t disagree Milroe really handicapped him.

One thing is for certain, all the players that were trying to profit and promote the LANK merchandise and prove all the naysayers were wrong were right after all last year. Will the LANK players trying to profit off of it this year prove the naysayers wrong this time?

There will be no "proof" like a player or coach outing players/groups. The others who saw what they saw probably are unmoved.

So in the interest of the board, I'm suggesting we move on.

In the coming days there will likely be some 2024 QB news to discuss. I look forward to that.

FTR, I've said this several times, I'm rooting for the guy that CKD deems the most skilled QB to run the show. If that's JM I'm rooting for him. If at a point it's not, I'll root for the next guy up!

RTR!

Good post.

It would be equivalent to a basketball player who vastly prefers to jack up 3 pointers (the long ball) because he has the "layup yips."

Knowing he won't take the easy "layup" the defense goes to the extreme of defending him up his jock way beyond the 3 point line just daring him to drive past them to the hoop but he keeps trying to shoot the contested 3.

Jalen has the tendency to not even look for the 5-10 yard dump off pass because he's looking way down field for the big shot. This is where a lot of his sacks come from.

IF/when he starts throwing to all parts of the field, his long ball will get much more efficient and also the running lanes for scrambles will open up too! This is the progression we are all hoping for!

I would love to see those intermediate throws early this season!!

I just watched a couple of the videos from the fall practice thread. I love keying in on the QBs and WRs.

It just takes me back every time I see how big/tall Austin Mack is. Looks like a promising QB. Interesting he seems to be #3 in the rotation.

Not a QB friendly offense for a new QB last year. Sark and Kiffin have many predetermined throws along the line of scrimmage or behind and use pop asses to inflate but protect inexperienced QB’s. I watched Freddie Kitchens play here for several years and he never won an SEC Championship or finish 5th in the Heisman and he never recieved so much negativity. Two different coaching staffs have evaluated and graded these QB’s all of them can’t not know what they are doing.

This is correct. We've now had two different staffs evaluate the same quarterbacks and end up with the same pecking order. That is why I am interested to see if there is any improvement by JMilroe in the areas that plagued him last season by being in a new offense with a HC who specializes in QB's and offense.
