We did get several blocks
You're right. I was looking at ESPN's box score earlier; they have updated it and show us with 4 blocks, and rebound margin 36-18 (offensive RBs 13-1 :eek2: ). Playing zone-D, you get hung out there in space a lot.

bottom line - We're just..not..very..good right now. :frown:

The amount of time we are in Zone, I start to wonder about one thing, conditioning!

Conditioning has been my primary gripe throughout the CMG era. It's the root of all our defensive problems.
Gee was playing "flat-footed" most of the game in the zone and actually looked like he was somewhere else.

ldlane,

OK has a reputation for being a "tough physical" team under Coach Sampson. They really attack the glass, and play with a lot of emotion. By contrast even with our "big" lineup we seemed to be out-physical-"ed" in the battl of the boards. Is this a mind set the players either have or don't have or is this something that can be coached? I seem to remember Coach Izzo at MSU (another program known for thier physicality) talking about drills he ran to toughen his players up.

We may have lost today, but they definitely looked better than against ND and Temple. To bad Steele hasn't been healthy all year it has really impacted this team.

It is a combination of both. There are drills that you can run to help "toughen" their play. I run a drill called "dogfight" to help with the aggressiveness of my team. I line them up into two teams on the baseline. I stand at mid-court and roll or bounce the ball toward the key. When I blow my whistle the first player in each line has to get the ball and score. The first team to score 11 baskets wins and the loser has to run suicides. There are no fouling rules or out of bounds or jump ball on tie-ups. They have to wrestle it away from one another and score. My players love it (MS Girls) It is something that you have to build upon.

I agree with CMG. I like this team. I think though that we are really young and we need some work on individual fundamentals. You know I can remember as far back as Coach Newton. I like the way our program is headed!

There is a saying in basketball: Players are made in the summer, teams in the winter.

I didn't see the game. But several questions come up from reading the box score.

1. Why didn't Felix play?
2. How can Hendrix and Davis play 30+ minutes each and only total 6 rebounds?
3. What in hades is CDavis doing throwing up 5 3's?

Hard to complain about a 2 for 5 performance from the 3 point line.
I'm not complaining about the result, just wondering why our best inside player is taking so many attempts from behind the arc?

I am complaining that CD, RH and JD play 30+ minutes each and combine for only 12 rebounds.

Ja. Davidson has looked very weak over the last few games. He's not mixing it up at all in the paint, just looks lost, refuses to block out. If he every wants to turn pro at any point he needs to wake up!

I feel for Ronald, he's all alone! No help from the bench either.

I worried now about making the Tourney!

Although we didn't win I thought we looked better in this game than we have so far. Lets face it...we played an older team with younger players and did alright. I feel we can get better as the year rolls along.

Sounds like just another excuse to me. How do you know we are playing better? That OK team just came off a blowout loss to WVU. Also, OK is not a three point shooting team like NC State and Notre Dame. I think it is safe to say that Steele played better, and Davis played good as usual. But I just don't see the improvement everyone else is seeing. And the "we can get better" excuse doesn't really work anymore. We have pretty much played ourselves out of the tournament with a 6-5 non-conference record. And the 5 losses are the only games the selection commitee is going to look at.

In my opinion, it was the same un-inspired basketball last night. The team desperately needed a win and they were out hustled and out played.

I'm not going to give up on this team. We have a lot of growing and learning to do and I am confident that CMG is the right teacher.

I guess teaching and coaching has made me look at things in a different perspective than just a regular fan. I look at growth of the person and player not my own selfish "ends". I would like to be a champion every year, but I realize the reality and limitations of assimilating new information.

Many of these players come from a HS that don't teach the High Post and may not even teach them how to play MTM. MTM is the basis for every defense. Rather than spend the time teaching players how to guard a person with the ball or more importantly without the ball many coaches go straight to a zone for the simple reason to win.

I think these kids will be alright. It will just take time, patience and support. Please support Crimson Tide Basketball!
