I think this piece and other dialogs dealing with this topic are ready to join the pantheon of other of our Urban Legends that surface from time to time, i.e., uniform changes, etc.
 
why does everyone think that's so crazy? All you'd have to do is tie him off on the Quad. He could eat leaves and acorns and birds. He could have sun or shade if he wanted. All you'd need is a kiddie pool full of water for him to drink. And if he ever broke loose, he wouldn't hurt anyone because he is our mascot and we are Alabama. We would NEVER buy a mean elephant. In fact, forget about even tying him off. Just let him have free reign of the Quad. I guarantee he would never leave or hurt anything.
