Both of these guys were at practice today. We could have used Ali today because we dont have a capable running back right now. I just happened to sit next to Ali's dad, Charles, at the stadium today. We talked nearly the whole scrimmage about different things. He said Ali is up to 210 lbs. That is real good being only 5'9. Think of him as a faster shaud williams. He said CMS wants to use him like reggie bush of USC. Ali got his act score back last week and it is good. he is on track to graduate and qualify. mr sharrief also said that ali is a hard worker in the weight room and that he definitely expects him to at least be on the kick off team because he likes contact. i asked him about switching from AU to bama and he said that when they asked tubbs about competing for the rb position that tubb said "we got backs." he also said that he really liked nick saban as much as CMS. he said that he told chris that either choice would be good. so when saban left, he chose bama. he said that when les miles got to lsu, he flew up to north jackson to meet with keys. he also said that miles took a shot at alabama, and that immediately turned him off to lsu because he knew it wasnt true because miles doesnt know anything about bama. mr sharrief also told me that he expects alabama to be back this year because we have a real good core and that all weve been lacking is depth. he said he told ali and chris to not be surprised if we were in pasadena at the end of the year. he also said that ali is a real good kid and they wont have to worry about him. he said he made the honor roll this year for the first time since the fourth grade. he said that since he committed to bama he has shown a new committment to his school work. he said that chris needs someone to push him a little more in when he gets here. he said that he is a good kid, he just has problems sometimes staying on the straight path. i saw both of them up close down on the sidelines and they both are very good physical specimens. mark this down, they both will be playing this fall. anyway, that is all i recall right now from our conversation. i just found it interesting. if i remember anything else we talked about i will post it. roll tide.

Sense Kenneth Darby is recovering from surgery right
now we no doubt need Ali Sharrief's help this coming
fall.

I'm also hoping and praying that Mr.Upchurch and
Mr.Coffee are ready to play this fall as well because
we will need as much help as we can get this coming
fall.

Thanks for sharing that with us, ajacks. Interesting story about Miles coming up to Jackson and talking with Keys. I'm certainly glad he came our way.

Yep...

may Miles continue to be as effective a recruiter for us in the future. Poor devil's been trying to get out of Oklahoma for years. His resume' has landed on our AD's desk every time we've had an opening...

I don't think he'll be at LSU very long.

I hope your right but I think you are going to be wrong. You have to give Miles some credit with what he did with OK St. When you consider he was recruiting agasint OK. and having to play in the 2nd toughest conference in the college football.

It's not so much a knock on Les Miles as it is the patience of LSU fans. Nick has spoiled them with his successfull tenure there which included two SEC championships and one NC. Florida went through the same thing with Zook after Spurrier.

He'll be under a lot of pressure to succeed in Baton Rouge. And, for the record, its not a knock on LSU fans, either. It's just the nature of the beast.

Hey guys,

Don't we and Okie State share a former coach? Can you say "Ears" Whitworth? Any of you old-timers around when we brought him in? How on earth did we decide that we needed to bring in a football coach from Stillwater, OK?

He was a well respected defensive coach, Bama Alum and former assistant coach at the Capstone. On paper, I believe he looked very capable.

I am still shocked that Patrino didn't leave for LSU. I guess he doesn't want to hurt his standing for the next Head Coach Vacancy at Cow Town.

Most in the Big 12 attribute the success OK St. has enjoyed the last few years to the OC, Mike Gundy. I picture Miles having about the same run TT1 had...live off the recruiting success of the former coach for a few years and then it spirals.

We'll see...

The Red River Valley and the entire state of Texas combine to make one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country. Not a knock on Stoops' or Texas' Mack Brown, both of whom recruit nationally. But if you're the HC of a Division I school in a major conference, and you're plowing the some of the best fields in the country, something's gonna grow.

Miles is NOT going to recruit well for a few years at LSU. The reason why is because of the economic conditions in that state. The schools have lots of great athletes, and lots more lousy students. What Saban was able to do was fence off the state and cherry pick the qualifiable students.

I have lots of friends who are LSU alumni and fans. Not all of the faithful think this was the right hire.

I do as well...it certainly was a quick hire. I think they should've taken their time a bit and interviewed more candidates, personally...but, hey, that's just me...!

LOL. We heard the same thing from rival fans when we hired Saban. Without really having anything to go on you guys are hoping Miles cannot recruit and even went as far to say his success at Ok. St. was due to his OC. umm...OK.... Keep in mind he did better at Ok. St than Jimmy Johnson who was the last one to actually win there, and they were horrible when Miles arrived in Stillwater.

Time will tell, but so far his recruiting has gone well. We had a limited number of schollies last year and he filled the remaining open spots well. So far the only offers out for 2006 (rumored to have offered 8 players) are the top players in LA., just as Saban was doing, we will recruit East Texas hard also, and hit Florida, MS, AL occasionally as needs or players dictate. Miles has a strong reputation as a recruiter, so we'll see how he does at a big-time program. Only time will tell my red friends.

He hired an excellent staff IMO - top notch - retaining Jimbo Fisher and hiring Bo Pelini and Karl Dunbar on defense, Brad Peveto will be ST coordinator who states the goal is to emphasize the ST the way they are done at VT. The best players - starters included - will play ST. Thats great news because we were not very good there last year and we have lots of athleticism we can use. It will be nice to be a threat at blocking kicks. The staff hirings were well done, he took his time and went after the big fish out there.

All you can really do is judge him by what hes done so far.

Recruiting - A
Staff - A+

The big one - coaching - is what remains for year one. He did beat OK twice, but alas I read here that was due to the OC. heh.

Year two will be a telling year IMO.

BTW, the more plausible and repeated story about Miles and bama is that Lee Roy Jordan pushed hard for Miles after the Mike Price fiasco. Miles said "No thanks." Dispute it if you like but why would you hire Shula over Miles? one was a successful HC turning around a woeful program and the other wasn't.

BTW Petrino was not offered the job. That is from Skip Bertman himself. Miles was offer #1.

IMO, and this is all just opinion based on what he accomplished at OK. St and what Shula has done at Bama, LSU is set up to continue to be better than Bama for as long as these coaches remain intact. Miles is just better than Shula based on track record. I know you don't want to hear it but just go ahead and accept it now and it will save you the shock later. Time will prove my words to be as good as gold.

Enjoy the season!

At least he tried...Of course, you look at his username and you get suspicious of his intentions.

Tell me you all are not surprised...
