so will he be able to redshirt the year that he has to sit out and still have 3 to play?
No. He spent his Freshman and Sophomore years at MSU, he'll sit this one and have two years to play two.

Lowe returned 17 punts for 195 yards, an 11.5 yard average, including a 74-yard touchdown as a true freshman in Croom's first season of 2004. He also brought back 19 kickoffs for 343 yards and had a 9-yard run. Lowe earned Sporting News All-Freshman SEC honors that year.
Apparently he can catch a punt. :)

welcome home jonathan!
hopefully pro can return 'em this year, and we'll have Jonathan for 2007.

I guess Starkville wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
is it cracked up to be something?

You know that it irked Coach Croom to no end to sign his release, knowing that he was going to transfer to his #1 enemy, Bama. Too bad the kid couldn't of realized last year that he wasn't cut out to be a Dawg because we sure could use him this year.

I know we got some bad publicity from hiring Shula over Croom at first, but I guess Moore or whoever hired Shula (assuming it was Moore) is looking smart now. The program at MSU is rolling downhill, and the Tide is Rolling in T-Town.

From his stats page it sounds like he is built like his daddy.

When I palyed HS ball James Lowe was my coach. His brothers would come down in the summer and work with us preseason. The first time I met Woodrow I though I was looking at a mountian. He had no neck, his ears where attached to his sholders. Eddie was like a mini me. look just like Woodrow only a smaller version. I still have flash back of playing B-Ball with 4 or 5 of the chargers who came down to help.

Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom, the former Alabama All-American, confirmed the move Monday, saying he wasn't aware of where Lowe had transferred.
Now that is interesting. There was a thread on this forum 2 weeks ago about Glen Coffee where Lowe's name came up about being at Bama. Perhaps, someone could send Sly a TF.com link?

I'm sure Croom knew where he was going, he probably didn't want it out there considering it's recruiting season. Great to have another possible punt returner, although it won't be until '07. Roll Tide!

If I am not mistaken a head coach in the SEC has to OK the transfer of a football player to another SEC school before it can take place. I guess the fact that he was transferring to Alabama just slipped his mind.

Jonathan Lowe

According to the Mobile Register, Jonathan Lowe (son of Eddie Lowe & nephew of Woodrow Lowe) has transfered from Mississippi State to Bama. In 04, Lowe was an All-SEC Freshman selection as a special teams returner. Word is that he will be coming in on the Bryant scholly after sitting out the 06 season. Am optimistic that he will give us another potential returner if he is able to return from a neck injury in 05.

His dad ( who transfered in from UTC) had an excellent nose for the ball, always in the right place at the right time. Pound for pound one of the best LBs we ever had at the Capstone. A little more size, and he'd have played on Sundays. If the son is half as tough as the dad, he'll be a great addition to the Tide. Welcome aboard Jonathan.

I am from Phenix City where Jonathon Lowe is from and went to the same highschool, Central. When he came out he really wanted to go to Bama but thought he would get a shot at more playing time at Miss St. I think when he didn't see that happen he chose to transer to Bama. Hey if all your gonna do is return punts you might as well do it for Bama instead of MSU. He probably saw the debacle that made up our punt returns last season and jumped at the chance to transfer.
