Great photos Bryant Ave! I say we go back to the 1892 style turtlenecks.
It looks like the university got serious with the uniforms after the 1930 rose bowl, the jersey's change from rugby looking wool with bars to our classic white with crimson numerals. This was the game Coach Bryant listened to on the radio at home in Arkansas and was basically the recruiting tool for our good fortunes!

So our Jersey's have been very similar for over 80 year's.

That's one hypothetical I strongly disagree with. First I doubt it would help recruiting, second, coach Saban is too smart to do something crazy with our uniforms and cause clutter in the fanbase..........which trumps having a few hypothetical vain recruits.
I said it wasn't as big of a deal in recruiting, hence doesn't help. The same thing you said. But if it did, Saban would do it. Recruiting is the life line of your program. The fan base would have to get their panties out of a wad.

The lack of uniform variety has been greatly detrimental to Bama's recruiting since Saban arrived.
I'm not sure you can make that conclusion based on the results we've gotten since CNS has been at Bama. I doubt we've ever not gotten a player because he wanted a different uniform.

I think the white helmet for an anniversary would be fine.

i wouldn't mind seeing what our throwbacks would look like. Something like what Iowa State did this year:

I wouldn't mind seeing throwback uni's from the Bryant era, but I don't think tearaway jerseys are legal anymore.

Ugh, let me rephrase my statement, since I got so many darn dislikes. I said I would be ok with a black jersey, didn't mean I would go crazy over one. I love our current uniform combo, and the Pro Combat we wore in 2010 and wouldn't change it at all. Rather win 15 championships than have 0 with 100 combos. Just putting in an idea people.

Geez..... Really? Like we need help in recruiting.

Leave the HELMETS alone. Subtle uni changes only if any at all. Maybe light gray houndstooth pattern on white fabric and numbers. Otherwise.......
No.....

It's not you they dislike...it's the idea! Black is nowhere in Bama's uniform history, and shouldn't be. What would be after that? Pink? Orange? BLUE!? Some things just should not be messed with.
If you want to change anything, change 'Crimson Tide' to Crimson Tsunami'!:biggrin2:

I am for very slow improvements over the years, which we have done for 100+ years. I do like the dark grey long shirts under the Jersey's and could tolerate some hound-tooth trim around the collar or something. Even coach Saban sports the dark grey polo shirts. It's not normal grey, but a dark rich variety that goes well with Crimson. I have noticed a lot of this color in our newest facilities. I know that grey has been around for a while, but this shade is showing up more in official capacities, for instance you can only wear three color's exposed under your jersey. Crimson, White and this shade of Grey.

But our minimalistic tradition uniforms with number on helment are always ranked highly and it takes a nano second for the average fan to know it's Alabama, and that is important.
The teams that go radical are historical ne'er do wells :)

That's a great pic of AJ sporting our white road uni's. Both our home and travel uniforms are classic and the best in the land. Why in the world would anyone want to mess with perfection?

I dont understand the faux outrage over the white helmet. It is a well established part of our history. We wore them many times from 1930 to 1984. Coach Bryant's teams wore them often and many times in big games (see 1971 vs USC). I doubt CBB was trying to "mess with our tradition" or "be like Penn St" . Perkins used them as well. His teams wore them for all road games in 1984. Starr, Stabler, Namath, Musso, Newsome and countless other legends have donned the white helmets. I'm not saying we should or we will but others shouldn't act like we would be crushing our timeless uniform heritage.

To be clear I'm not outraged over the white helmet. Having been born the year coach Bryant came to Alabama I'm aware of its periodic appearances. But everyone, coast to coast, recognizes the crimson helmet with the white number and stripe. Today's typical CFB fan wouldn't recognize the white helmet nor take the initiative to learn its significance.

Just my view and reasoning. Don't expect it to be everyone's.
