It looks like the university got serious with the uniforms after the 1930 rose bowl, the jersey's change from rugby looking wool with bars to our classic white with crimson numerals. This was the game Coach Bryant listened to on the radio at home in Arkansas and was basically the recruiting tool for our good fortunes!Great photos Bryant Ave! I say we go back to the 1892 style turtlenecks.
I said it wasn't as big of a deal in recruiting, hence doesn't help. The same thing you said. But if it did, Saban would do it. Recruiting is the life line of your program. The fan base would have to get their panties out of a wad. That's one hypothetical I strongly disagree with. First I doubt it would help recruiting, second, coach Saban is too smart to do something crazy with our uniforms and cause clutter in the fanbase..........which trumps having a few hypothetical vain recruits.
I'm not sure you can make that conclusion based on the results we've gotten since CNS has been at Bama. I doubt we've ever not gotten a player because he wanted a different uniform. The lack of uniform variety has been greatly detrimental to Bama's recruiting since Saban arrived.

It's not you they dislike...it's the idea! Black is nowhere in Bama's uniform history, and shouldn't be. What would be after that? Pink? Orange? BLUE!? Some things just should not be messed with.Ugh, let me rephrase my statement, since I got so many darn dislikes. I said I would be ok with a black jersey, didn't mean I would go crazy over one. I love our current uniform combo, and the Pro Combat we wore in 2010 and wouldn't change it at all. Just putting in an idea people.
That's a great pic of AJ sporting our white road uni's. Both our home and travel uniforms are classic and the best in the land. Why in the world would anyone want to mess with perfection?I am for very slow improvements over the years, which we have done for 100+ years. I do like the dark grey long shirts under the Jersey's and could tolerate some hound-tooth trim around the collar or something. Even coach Saban sports the dark grey polo shirts. It's not normal grey, but a dark rich variety that goes well with Crimson. I have noticed a lot of this color in our newest facilities. I know that grey has been around for a while, but this shade is showing up more in official capacities, for instance you can only wear three color's exposed under your jersey. Crimson, White and this shade of Grey.
But our minimalistic tradition uniforms with number on helment are always ranked highly and it takes a nano second for the average fan to know it's Alabama, and that is important.
The teams that go radical are historical ne'er do wells
