From the bits and pieces I have gathered some have told me that Andre didn't do anything but a family member, possibly his uncle or his dad, took out an insurance policy on Andre through an agent before the Bowl game. Another agent who wanted Andre turned them in. I'm not going to say this is etched in stone but I hope it slows down some of the more ignorant posts from last night. I think this has some merit or I wouldn't put it on the message board. There may be some more updates when we find out more, if we find out more but please lets not keep speculating and twisting this story into something more ugly than it already is. Thanks and Roll Tide.

Similar to what I've heard. I feel for Andre; doesn't sound like he did anything wrong. Staff acted in the only fasion they could. Now, let's get the OL ready for the youths...I mean Utes...

This contact stuff with agents need to be overhauled by the NCAA, but where do you draw the line, I suppose. Maybe let the University be able to take out insurance on these kids so this doesn't happen again in the future...

If this is the case above.
What has Andre & the University of Alabama done wrong in this situation?

It seems unfair with all these sharks surrounding these players, and when there is this much money involved there will always be people messing with these kids. Seems even their own family will do them in for money.........
Very sad this whole thing is........

Bay - thanks for the update. I stopped even reading the other thread....

....but if this is all that there is, why would CNS suspend him unless the agent PAID for the insurance policy and not the family.... This would hardly be the first time players take out insurance policies....

So if this is the case, then why couldn't the University talk to the NCAA right now, explain the situation and that it is handled, cancel the insurance policy, and let him play? That may be a stupid question and too easy, but it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to let go. If the NCAA cared for the players then a situation like this should be able to be overlooked if the corrections are made prior. If I'm way off base, let me know.

Roll Tide Andre... I hate this for you.

There are many things that could have happened in a meeting like that which could have resulted in an NCAA violation without Andre's presence or agreement, but none of them would have resulted in CNS making the statement that he did...

All CNS said was that the team was bigger than one player. It sucks to throw Andre to the wolves, but if he is ineligible, whether by his own actions or another, to the wolves he must go.

It's like I said in another thread...talking with an agent is like a mafia member talking with the Feds. It's got to be dealt with, however unfortunate.

Sorry, I've been on a Sopranos kick.

I wish this were true. He followed that up with: "Everyone on our team depends on each other to be responsible, to make good choices and decisions relative to their actions."

Now, if he meant "decisions by relatives and their actions"... :biggrin2:

At any rate, this is water under the bridge. Whatever happened, happened. I don't plan on giving this any further thought.

To Andre,

You were great while you were here and Bama owes you a great deal for helping restore our program. I wish you success in the NFL.

You don't know that.

If that's the way it went down it's a real shame for Andre and Bama.

Bama just needs to go out and take care of business, dedicate the game to Andre.

Look, I love Coach Saban, but the man is king of boilerplate, and that was about as stock a statement as he could make. I think you are parsing just a little bit too much.
The fact remains that CNS had the cajones to suspend one of our best and most visible players before an important game.

Just as Coach Bryant did with Joe Namath late in the 1963 season, he has sent a message to the rest of the team which will (hopefully) prevent future occurrences of this sort.

It could get even worse for AS . I bet he hopes he doesn't end up playing his next game as a member of the Detroit Lions :p_eek: Best of luck .

I kinda hope he does go there if they hire New England VP Pioli as GM and McDaniels (NE's OC) as head coach. I think if that happens, they'll pay Cassell huge money to make him the franchise QB. They already have a gamebreaking WR and solid tailback. Draft Andre at #1, draft another offensive linemen with the Dallas pick...be very explosive on offense in a poor division.
