anybody

I seen it all and it wasn't any good !!! Lets just say they looked better last weekend. Gardek blows the save Thursday and Friday featured Wolf giving up 7 earned runs thru 3 nd 2/3 sitting (82-84). A J Cole at 3rd was exposed all afternoon on balls that should've been caught. On to the positive news,

Charles Sullivan, Trey Pilkington had nice outings and the same freshmen mentioned last week looked very effective. Case Nixon had the best outing since he has been here, 5 ks with total control.

Dugas, Andrew Miller couldn't get out spraying the ball all over off of LH pitching. Miller looks to have picked up some speed running the bases with a double and a stand up triple. Reaves and Smith hit with authority and Smith took a line drive off the rib cage.

Memo to Gardeck: If you are going to continue to slam the bullpen gate and sprint at a John Rocker pace to the mound, you better have better stuff than you've been showing. This is NOT JUCO! The SEC will hit a flat 96mph with bad secondary stuff as you're finding out . Our team has squared up too many balls already with more to come. I personally think that Rocker Dash to the mound is Bush League in college. The last names on the jersey will change every year but that name on the front will always be the same. Its Alabama, and we play as a team

Roll Tide!

Great report! Thanks for the information, the good and the bad. I guess that the situation has flipped now and that we are going to have to score runs this year as opposed to outpitching them like the last two.

We have the makings of a solid 1-9, but I don't have a clue who is going to pitch now that Hawley is out. Wolfe has never been consistent from the first day he was here.

Sullivan strikes me as a guy who could maybe contribute a lot this year.

Can't hardly wait for them to get started.

lookin thru rose colored glasses - add carlise, a big kid with defense skills and arm plus can hit; put him with miller and dugas and the of is better than last year.
smith and reaves both will improve over last year last year.
roberts huge improvement offensively over last year with some range.
cole at 3b three or four practices in looks pretty solid, plus can hit it pretty good.
booth behind the plate looks pretty good and swingin it pretty good.
rosecrans, kelton, moore, baxter swingin it pretty solid. others have a moment now and again.

pitchers look pretty good overall with some spotty at times. like wolfe - from pretty good to pretty bad. nixon also from bad one day to a couple good innings. defense looks to be good, hitting much improved and with some tlc the pitching will be better overall than last year.

just an opinion based on a couple scrimmages and some talk, but sounds exciting.

The pitching could be better than last year? I am sorry, but I will have to wait and see on that one. There is no Nathan Kilcrease in this bunch that you can depend on to get you that Friday night win, I don't believe.

I would hope they could put together a decent staff by February. We have arms.

Another question: is Glenn Harbin still with the baseball team?

I tend to agree. There's really no bonafide ace in this staff. We don't have that go-to guy like we've had the past few years (Hyatt, Nelson, Peanut), and really not that one person who's expected or thought of to be able to step into that role like we've also had (Nelson, Morgan). If Hawley was available, I feel he could be a guy that could grow into that role, but none of the others really made me think they were Friday-night material.

I'll be reserved about the pitching staff until I can see a few of them in real-game innings. Like the Tulane, ECU, Louisville games, not necessarily Ark Pine-Bluff.

According to rolltide.com they have him on the 2011-12 team roster.

While he didn't pitch last Saturday, Glenn Harbin was dressed and in the dugouts. Haven't seen many of our pitchers in an SEC game situation, yet. However, alot of the pitchers, especially the freshman, performed well on Saturday. For early Fall ball, chemistry of the team looked good as well as the depth at most positions.

I am glad that Glenn stuck it out. I hated seeing him in sweats all the time last year.

We are going to have to depend on newbies this year, that's certain. Hopefully people step up and blossom the way we need them to.

I can't wait to see them get started.

i agee there is no peanut in the group and probably not a smart from last year. but overall we have better arms and a chance to be better, other than friday night. this years staff should have a better offense to help. anyway i'll watch some more saturday morning.

I'm hoping Kamplain or Guilbeau turn into dominant SEC pitchers - have higher hopes for them because they were drafted.

I have high hopes for all of them cause I haven't seen any of them play yet, so far, they're all All-SEC to me haha

From what I understand Guilbeau got knocked around yesterday pretty good, Rosecrans and Smith hitting bombs off of him. Probably a good thing, needs to come down to earth a little bit based on what I am hearing. Harbin is still there and pretty much a favorite of all the guys, he got some work last week and will get some either today or tomorrow.

Not only Guilbeau, but every pitcher we run out got banged around pretty good. Pilkington and Guibeau going 5 this early in the fall tells me they're the front runners for the Friday night spot. One thing about this team, we will hit!

Not sure If I'm ready to hand the keys over to AJ Cole at 3rd base. Booth would at least knock it down and make a play over there and then this Ben Moore kid keeps showing everyday he is a factor and can play.

cole is a young talent that seems to have the coaches confidence. he is probably first up if based on nothing other than his stick. if booth is your firrst option at third, then who behind the dish? the second option at third is much better for the overall team than the second option behind the plate. all around booth seems to be way ahaed of the others behind the plate. if cole falters at third look for moore to get some ground balls. hadn't seen rosey behind the plate but he would probably be option two there.

I really don't look for Rosecrans behind the plate 6'4" is a bit tall for a catcher plus in my opinion Montgomery is not too bad. Agree that Booth is your frontrunner there if only for his bulldog type mentality. We have been spoiled with Brock for a couple of years. Yes we will hit this year, wonder what the difference in bats would have done this past year???? Nike should have to pay us back $.

Will be at Saturdays scrimmage and will try and give a report.

A solid defensive catcher is one of the most overlooked aspects of baseball, and Bennett was rock-solid. The fact that he was a .350 hitter didn't hurt, either, even if his slugging percentage was the same as his batting average. We will miss that guy.

rtr

no doubt bennett will be missed. the point is that there is not alot of competition at most positions. for instance smith will be at first, roberts will be at second, reaves will be at short, cole will be at third, booth will catch, dugas will be in center. now that being said there is some competition at left, right and dh; with carlise, miller and rosecrans ahead. thats just how i see it. the difference in last year is there will be some players on the bench that can help push the starters to make 2012 a much better year. but as they say things can change.
