Anyone Remember Clem Gryska ?

I just spoke with a guy in Bama garb and he said his uncle was named Clem Griscoe and that he played and coached at Bama in the 40s and 50s and curated the Bryant Museum.

Anyone know this guy?

Probably referring to Clem Gryska. If it's him, he's well known in Bama history as as assistant for Coach Bryant.

His name was Clem Gryska. Yes, he was a very influential person in Alabama football history. Very well liked and loved by many. The stories that man could tell. I didn't know him, but saw him many times on television and old Bama videos.

Played at Bama under Red Drew and also Frank Thomas. Coached under Bryant and others and worked as an administrator. Passed away at the age of 84. Was one of Coach Bryant's favorite people.

IIRC Coach Gryska came to Alabama with Coach Bryant in 1958. He was a fixture at Alabama for many years.

I believe that Coach Bryant hired him around 1960 or maybe '61. I remember him being hired while I was still a student I think he was coaching high school ball in Huntsville when he was hired.

I bet the GOP hates that they're having to unload the war chest for Richard Shelby this election...they've laid out some big ad spots in the semis, CFP championship, and now the Super Bowl.

Is Clem Gryska in any of them? :wink:

That was my understanding as well. Also, I'm told that he coached some HS ball here in Gadsden back in the 50s/60s before he worked for Bryant.

You are correct 61; I got him confused with Sam Bailey.

Pulled up and read an article on AL.com that came out when he passed away. It says he coached at Huntsville HS and then coached briefly at Emma Sansom HS here in Gadsden before returning to Huntsville HS in 1954.

This guy walks his dog in my neighborhood always wearing bama gear and I just happened to be tossing the pigskin with my boys in the front yard when he walked by the other day and we struck up a conversation.
