Question: Are Bama assistants underpaid?

Thompson's departure, rumored to be over money, caused me to think back to a blurb I read in the local Minnesota paper about Ted Roof's salary at the Barn.

Latest word is that Ted Roof, who this week left his $330,000-a-year Gophers defensive coordinator job, will be paid $650,000 annually for the same position at Auburn.
Could it be possible that Bama's assistant coaches are now underpaid?

It appears the Barn and UcheaT are driving up salaries for assistants. What's next - an NCAA salary cap?

Good grief.

Well, it does seem that this year has seen an amazing rise in asst. salaries, and it looks like the trend is going to stay. Alabama pays very well, but may have to take a second look to keep up. Having said that, it is the best policy to pay the best head coach well and keep him happy, and let him tell you what he needs for asst. salaries.

This makes me a bit nervous that there might be some unrest on the coaching staff. Please tell me that any problems have been resolved with LT's departure.
That is not the problem. Earle said money was not the issue nor were there any issues between LT and Saban. It's a personal issue so leave it alone for now.

Saban has had a high turnover in assistants in every stop he's been at.....it's part of the package. Not everyone can stand up to the 24/7 365 he demands. I don't know the situation, but I can imagine it could put a strain on a family who may not be as understanding as Saban's. Just my thoughts.

Shoot, to work with someone like Nick Saban and make over $250,000 per year, I'd do it in a heartbeat!;):)

I think we are seeing an escalation in salaries - just based on what the viles are now paying.

Don't forget about the new ESPN TV Contract with the SEC..... I have read reports that this equates to several million dollars in additional funds per institution. I think UT is just the first to start spending the ESPN money....

I don't think they are underpaid, but don't be surprised if the salaries start to increase. First head coaches get substantial increases (Saban, Miles, Stoops, etc.), then the coordinators and position coaches will as well.

$250,000 per year sounds real sweet but I don't know about working for Nick Saban. I worked for a boss like Nick Saban when I first got out of college. He rode everybody like a mule, regardless of how well you did. If you thought you did an awesome job on something he was right there to point at all your inadequacies. There's no doubt it really helped my career but I could only take it for about 5 years and I had to move on to a normal job and life. Working for CNS sounds like an all-consuming affair where he demands your total commitment to the job, family and all else taking a back seat. There aren't many people that can stand up to that kind of measuring stick.

You can't take this -- how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?! You don't like it -- leave. I can go out there tonight with the list of kids you got, recruit myself another top class! Tonight! In two hours! Can you? Can you? Go and do likewise! B-A-M-A!! Get mad! You sons of a guns! Get mad!!"
