Arkansas preview: Fast-paced Hogs are still a bit slow on defense
by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

So far in Sam Pittman’s tenure as Arkansas head coach, his strategy seems to have been one of throwing as much as he can at better opponents, pressuring them to stay disciplined and keep pace. If they slip up, the Razorbacks are ready to pounce.

It’s a strategy that has worked well, and has allowed Arkansas to reenter the middle tier of SEC West opponents. A program that looked moribund, almost dead under its previous regime has now positioned itself as a team with a legitimate chance to upset Alabama, maybe even compete for a division title.

Punch them in the mouth early and often, stay away from turning the ball over early, and slow smoke their swine-behinds the rest of the game. One of the mistakes I think we made in the Texas game was being too conservative early on and trying to wait until the initial game emotions died down. The problem was, the initial game emotions instilled confidence in the UT group that kept building.

Looking back, I wish our game plan would have been to come out, fast and furious throwing haymakers early and often. But oh well, we won and here we are...

They will try to eat us up with back shoulder throws to the outside. We need to rush well which is a strength, and we need to try to figure out a way to slow down Drew Sanders or it will be a long day. Our O line needs to play their best game thus far. I think they might.

This. After watching Vandy hit several back shoulder passes, I believe we will see a heavy dose of those.

I know we like to run da bawl, but their weakness is the pass defense. I’m hoping we let BY and company loose and jump on them early. Then when they adjust to help their weak secondary, we pound them inside and out.
