News Article: Article on Ty Simpson: Good read about his journey

I hope he keeps up the positive attitude- old habits die hard for everybody. This is something I’ve learned personally as well in the last few years as I have a habit of concentrating on what went wrong over what went right- it is actually much more productive to focus on what you or the organization did well and how you can expand that than it is to critique every little thing that went wrong. In my last job/position one of my responsibilities was providing feedback to outside organizations on their performance. I realized a little too late that I was probably being overly negative and focusing too much on what they messed up vs what they did well. Ironically I started kicking myself over that. 😂

All this is to say, I totally get where Ty is coming from and I think if he can stay positive and not revert to old habits of negative critique then I think we’ve got a really good shot at a title this year. I also think- I hope unselfishly- that another year at Alabama as a starter would really help him transition well into the NFL. One year of learning the ropes as a starter with high level competition is rough!

Not surprising given the circumstances, but it's interesting how close he came to transferring. Glad he stuck with it. Hopefully, it's a lesson to the guys behind him.

You could see this tension when he played...and even this year. If the team is to achieve their goals then he has to relax, read and respond with good throws. The run game doesn't help...but he is talented enough to over come that if the OL pass blocks well.

All of us who grew up with perfectionist parents tend to be that way...whether in school, athletics or work if the majority of messages are about our mistakes then that is what we will look at rather than the successes. I know this hymn and all the verses....

I had a feeling and even said so in a post at the beginning of the season that I thought Ty would had a good year, but at some point have a mini-slump before recovering and finishing strong.

I think that is what has happened to a degree. He's been slightly off the last couple of outings. Nothing major but close only counts in two things and neither of them is football. He's barely missed a few throws that would have literally blown those games wide open instead of them remaining close.

It's that and teams adjusting to alot of tape of what we do well.

I think he'll figure it out and come back strong and I've got my fingers crossed Grubb will weed out the plays that aren't working and focus on the ones that do!

Thanks for posting this. I thought Ty got a little bit in his own head last week against LSU. Early success may be key for him. A bunch of short completions (but behind their front 6) early in the game might make a huge difference for him.

And our receivers cannot be dropping catchable balls like they did, say, last year in Norman.

First team to 24 wins.

It seems teams are making adjustments to our passing game and lack of running game. The short to intermediate parts of the field arent as open as they were earlier in the season. Teams are flooding these areas of the field and its causing Ty to hesitate and hold the ball longer.

Agreed. Ty's best ball (other than the 5-7 yard short, quick passes is the deep crossing patterns (15-20 yards).

The problem is those patterns require more time in the pocket to develop and OU's strength is a great pass rush.

Whatever will happen, this game will most certainly be won or lost based on the OL's ability/inability to give TS time in the pocket.

Hopefully, our offensive braintrust will be able to figure out some hot routes for TY that maybe OU hasn't seen yet!
