As expected, Clowney picks USCe

I have a gut feeling it's down to two schools for JC - either he stays home at USCe, or he heads for "the money is just too much" at Auburn. If we get him, i will be extremely shocked. But with Saban in charge of recruiting, we always have a chance. never say never.

Seriously? Joking?

Some think this is the beginning of a dynasty and they will win the SEC next year and be in contention for the NC next year.

Ha! I nearly fell out of the chair when I read that. I think he's going to USC-e with his "I want to stay close to home" statement. Don't expect logic to enter in to the discussion. He's a 17-18 year old kid and I'm sure his momma would love to have him just up the road in Columbia. He'll be a highly sought after NFL draft pick regardless although no national championship while in college...

What the heck does that mean. USC lead the SEC in sacks this season, will be placing its 2nd DE in the NFL in as many years, with Taylor likely nfl bound in 2012. Ellis Johnson is a good DC who gives his DEs and LBs a lot of freedom to shine and make plays. Brinkley and Norwood were studs at LB past few years and are in nfl as well. What in the world would be illogical about staying close to home and playing at an up-and-coming SEC team that has a good recent history of putting players at his position into the nfl? IMO Clowney can't go wrong with choosing Bama or USC.

He means as far as which team has the most potential.

Excellent points. From a 'future pro' perspective, if Clowney will be a stud at Bama, he'll certainly be a stud at USCe as well. The ONLY mix-up in the situation is a coaching change. He'll get coached right by the D-Coordinator at USCe. He's one of the best in the biz. (putting my crimson shades back on now)

It means USC-e ended the season the way they always do. They just had more on the line this time.

It means, go to USCe and don't expect to win big much. Go to USCe and be content with going to the Music City Bowl after having lost to Florida, Georgia and a SEC west opponent and maybe one more every year.

I can see how JC would be confused. If he's listening to the SC coaches and fans they are telling him that the Cocks are "this close" to turning the corner and that he could be the tipping point to turning them into SEC championship material.

However, I can also see how if he's listening to CNS that he knows Bama's already arrived and he could win rings and make millions under CNS's tutelage.

This one may turn out like the Tebow story where JC really likes Bama and CNS, but he really loves USCE and playing close to momma. We'll see.

I know we(FSU) don't have a shot at Clowney. He canceled his visit to FSU before, but has now changed his mind after we beat USCe on Friday. Still, everyone feels he is going to South Carolina, but it's always good to have the consensus #1 player in America coming to Florida State, if for no other reason than the positive publicity it generates.

Sounds like sunshine pumping to me...

First post. Love the boards. I feel after JC said he doesn't like the 3-4 defense yet played it on the Shriners Game and had good stats during that game it might make him think about 3-4 as a DE or Jack LB. Also seeing that Cyrus is 50/50 with him and would ultimately make him better during practices that might sway him to the good guys if Cyrus picks Bama as well. What ya think?

Welcome to Tide Fans. I like the way you think. ;)

Don't mean to ruffle your feathers, there, Mr. Gamecock. I apologize if I offended you-I just don't think USC will be contending for a National Championnship in 2 years. I think they have a good chance for the SEC but not the NC. My illogical comment was if Clowney wants a NC, his odds are better at Alabama but USC is probably in his sights. And yes, there is nothing wrong sticking close to home (I did!). Regardless, he will be going to the NFL in three years anyway no matter which school he chooses...Sorry again.

Sometimes guys want to be big fish in little ponds......and it is going to be hard for us to get guys that want to be BMOC -- on a little campus. (just my two cents)

I dont think thats the USCe appeal for clowney though. Its the hometown team and the pressure to stay in state in SC is out of control
