Re: Clowney's Coach "USC is still out front"

If you had Clowney in a 3-4 def, what position would you put him in? I think he would succeed in the Jack LB position more but I think he could still make a huge impact on the Strong side DE given his performance at the Shriner's game and the speed of our Jack LB's currently on the team. I think putting him at the DE position could make the defense overall better giving the LB's and CB's more QB hurries which gives them more interception opportunities. Either way, he would be a beast.

I have heard that JC's coach is lobbying for a position on the staff of the team that JC signs with. So that may be something to look for and could explain why he changed his tune.

If that was true he will not end up at UA. To many red flags. That also sounds like the same junk last year with K Allen recruitment. His handler, excoach, was believed to be seeking a job at Cal.

Also his coach just went to a new school to coach at where his son is the QB.

If this is true, then I say back away. Despite Clowney's ability, we absolutely do not need this kind of baggage. So again if this is true, we better be backing away.

that is just misinformation being spread by some gamecocks to justify why a coach would want his star athlete to play out of state. Bobby Carroll has resigned at Southpointe HS to coach at York HS, His son is a QB at York.

The only folks saying that Clowney's coach is looking for a job are USC folks, so take that with a grain of salt. There is no doubt that Clowney's coach likes Bama a whole lot and in my opinion he wants him to pick UA. I do however believe that he is not as involved in Clowney's choice as most folks think. I actually believe if he was more involved in the decision then Clowney would have already announced Bama as his favorite. Obviously the coach goes along on his trips but I believe that is just to get his opinions and provide input to help then make their decision. I believe that it will be Clowney and his mother that make the decision where he plays his college ball. Hopefully that will be Bama. I still think it is too close to call. I do think with him waiting until after NSD on his birthday on Feb. 14th to make his announcement that it seems to play into Bama's favor.

You know that isn't true, you live amongst them over on cockytalk. I read the post where they brought up Lynn Lang, and my friends in Rock Hill have made passive aggressive comments along the same lines. USCe fans are trying anything to rationalize why a star native son may play out of state. There a lot of good fans over there, but they also have a larger share than they should of delusional fans.

PS - I loved the Bama redneck sleigh, I would rather drive by poor ,(I know you really don't} devoted fans like that to play in an 'ON CAMPUS ' palace that is Bryant Denny, than drive off campus into Columbia to play in Williams Brice. Williams Brice is OK, but next to BDS , it looks like the mobile home in the picture.

If USCe folks are putting out rumors like that it means they are very worried about them not getting Clowney. If nothing else, those rumors may kinda turn Clowney, and especially mama, off to USC.

Common sense says you are correct and I figure Clowney and his mom have common sense. They will make the best decision for him not his coach and why would he wait till February 14th if he was not truly torn in his decision? It would only hurt South Carolina if they were just stringing someone along for the heck of it. Could cause USCe a possible recruit if they held a scholly open and he turned them down and it would hurt them more than it would Bama.

They are probably just weighing their options based on what they want from the school he attends not whether they will upset anyone at home or not, at least that is what I would do if he was my son.

While I agree with all of this, I am nervous of getting left at the altar a la Shula/Tebow. That would not be good.

Clowney will not make or break our class so there is no sense in worrying about his decision.

I am not sure that worry is what is going on. While it is true that JC will not make or break this class, he is the #1 player in the country and he would be a great get for Bama with respect to need...

so I think, for most people that are addicted to recruiting, (and if you follow this board you probably are) it is really more about excitement and anticipation; not worry. :BigA:

They already have 28 verbals and are still in the race for a couple more guys. If they're holding up schollys then I'm not sure where they are coming from

CNS > CMS

CNS recruiting > CMS recruiting

But hey, we did get Gmac because we lost out on Tebow.

I actually liked the sleigh but agree they should have had elephants pullling it.

I am not worried about Clowney. I've pretty much said from the beginning that if we get him then great, but it's like my head is telling my heart that it's South Carolina. Like others have said Alabama won't fall apart without Clowney. We'll be disappointed yes! If the kid was from Alabama then I'd be a nervous wreck (as I'm sure many in SC are), but that's not the case. We know it will be a tough pull, we know Coach Saban is a great recruiter, we know Alabama will be in it til the end, etc... Other than that not much more to do but wait and hope for the best.

Buckle up everyone, the Clowney's recruiting trip is going to be a little longer than we expected with a few extra turns and unexpected bumps in the road. Hopefully his long recruiting journey will end with Tuscaloosa being his new home and the start of a whole new adventure.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Top prospect in no hurry to sign
"Jadeveon has done a good job of narrowing things down a bit, but he still likes a lot of schools and he's the kind of kid who doesn't want to say no to anyone," Carroll said. "He's built up so many good relationships with so many schools, he just doesn't want to disappoint anyone. That's why it looks like it will go beyond Signing Day for him. ? I think he'll decide on his birthday, on Feb. 14, so we have close to another month or so left."

Here's what Clowney likes about each team on his list, in Carroll's words.

South Carolina: "Geography is a big advantage because there's a comfort level playing and staying close to home. He also likes the coaches, they did really well in the SEC this year and they are doing a good job of selling to top kids in-state that if they stay home, they can win the SEC and have shown progress doing that. It also helps that he has two former teammates, Stephon Gilmore and DeVonte Holloman, that are on the roster and that he is close to."

Alabama: "Great tradition, he likes the idea of playing for (coach) Nick Saban because he won national titles and he likes (assistant coach) Sal Sunseri because he coached Julius Peppers with the Carolina Panthers. He has liked both his trips to Alabama and came away impressed with everything about the way they do things, the way the carry themselves and the area."
