As expected, Clowney picks USCe

I don't really follow recruiting to heavily, but if JC wants a chance of being picked higher in the NFL he may want to head a little farther South than Columbia,SC.

Actually USC and Ellis Johnson have done quite well placing defensive players in the nfl. It's one area where USC can arguably hang with Bama in recruiting Clowney. Team success on the college level is where USC doesn't even begin to hold a candle to Bama and presumably one of the things Bama is marketing hard to the kid. Closeness to home is where Bama can't compete with USC and presumably is the center of their pitch to Clowney. It's going down to the wire.

Finebaum tweeted this just now:
ESPN's Tom Luginbill,'Clowney's situation has gotten a bit muddy. Two horse race between Bama/SC. Focus is on the Mom- decision Feb 14.'

"Focus is on the mom" leads us right back to South Carolina again. Ugh. As mentioned in another thread I wish Crowell's and Cyrus's parents had this kind of influence.

And yes, he had a 99-yard run. It's the second take on one of the highlight reels. He busts through a hole like a colt kicking free of its fence, and then he just goooooooooooooooooooooes.

Do you think Luginbill knows anything? I don't.

Sure he does, he knows just how to keep folks interested in listening to what he has to say, which basically is nothing short of what we already know. Clowney's mom will have a part in his decision as should any parent.

Yes. His birthday, Feb 14.

So assuming Luginbill is right, doesn't this put both USCe and Bama in a bad situation? Do we have to hold a space open after NSD and pray he takes it or just cut our losses with this kid? I mean it puts both schools in a bad situation with the loser having an open scholly that could have gone to some other well deserving kid because this guy could not make up his mind. I am sorry it makes me mad because some of these kids believe they are the center of the universe and they are not. Makes me think of Terelle Pryor and his saga. What if his birthday wasn't until May or June, then what? Thank you, my rant is now over...

After following this kid....I would expect any team to wait! This kid is one of the best looking recruits I have seen coming out of highschool! Including Trent, JJ, Aj Green, and etc.....he is in the elite class of players and will continue to be barring some freak injury! It won't kill our class if we don't get him....but it will make our class far better then anyone elses if we do!

Unless JC's Mom has been taking "Cecil" lessons on how to make your child go where you want, or unless she has over-riding influence on any choice he makes (and if she does, in fact, want him to come to Bama), IMO he goes to SC.
He would be part of one, maybe two NC teams at Bama, but I doubt any at SC. Bama would love to have him, but I just don't see it.
Prayin' for it, though.

I think Clowney is waiting till the 14th to screw with the recruiting services rankings. I mean they will pronounce someone number 1 and on down the line Wednesday but who ever he chooses could change it completely. That would be a funny enough reason to wait although he probably is still weighing his options and hasn't yet decided lol.
