As expected, Clowney picks USCe

I've been following this recruitment very closely and I really believe that Clowney wants to come to Bama and play for the Tide, but feels the pressure of staying in his home state. There is NO question which program is better and has a legitimate shot at winning a National Title that being Alabama. The SEC East will be better next year and 9-5 will not cut it. I just hope Clowney wants to come to a winning program and have a chance at playing for a national title, otherwise he will be stuck in the middle of the SEC East for the next four years.

I have a feeling that if JC goes to USCe, we might be saying, "who?" in 4 years. Anyone remember Rueben Randle? Yeah, Maize had better numbers than he did.

Actually it will be more like who for two years (only USCe fans will know who he is) and then as a JR he breaks out and goes pro, ala DeQuan Bowers.

i remember him killing our secondary in the lsu game this year.

Yeah. What did RR have a 85 yd TD reception in the 3rd quarter? LSU struggled offensively most of the year, but Randle showed up big against us.

How can you not remember Rueben Randle? He hurt Bama big time this year. He makes plenty of plays for LSU.

Yeah, if he signs with us, no way he ends up like B.J. Scott or Jerrell Harris or Tyl. . .

Wait a minute, I thought we had this recruiting thing figured out!!

But LSU didn't discover the forward pass until their bowl game.

JC will likely be a beast no matter where he signs. The idea that he will turn into an unknown if he signs elsewhere is silly to put it politely. And the Bowers at clemson comparrison is probably one that USC and clemson are using in their recruiting pitch, as Bowers was not an unknown at clemson (ACC defensive player of the year, winner of Bronko Nagurski Trophy as best defensive player in nation, 1st team AP All-American, projected #1 pick in nfl by many experts, etc.) In fact, if USC or any school could guarantee JC the same path and accolades that Bowers got, I think he'd commit on the spot (of course no one, not even Bama can guarantee anything other than a scholarship).

As I've already posted, from an nfl standpoint USC can compete with Bama in terms of placing defensive players in the nfl in the past decade. Bama's pitch to the kid has to center on winning championships, something USC clearly lags the Tide in.

With all due respect I think it's the complete opposite. Many big time players from the state of SC have gone out of state to bigtime places like Bama and just become another highly rated player on the roster. The few that have decided to stay here like Lattimore, Jeffery, Gilmore have not only become big time players but worshipped around gamecock country. All the more reason for JC to stay here.

You mean like AJ Green and Carlos Dunlap.

The kid should shine no matter where he goes. Both sides are being ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

FWIW, last night in a radio interview with PK, coach Carrol said that he felt JC would sign with USC. He said, "I believe he will be a Gamecock and that will be great 'cause then I can go see him."

He will shine wherever he goes. But in regards to his HS coach the same one that every USC fan for the past few months have called out and berated, he would be foolish to say anything else on that show. You do not go a radio that is pro USC and talk negative about them or the possibility of them maybe missing out on the top prospect in the country that happens to also be from SC. He has already done that and the fans have blasted him for it. Does it mean it is not true no and JC will probably end up at USC but so many have questioned him and said he is pushing JC away from USC and he does coach in the state and does not need fans to harass him anymore.

I don’t see JC shining at either school as the problem but where will he get the most exposure? He can attend USC and be “worshipped around gamecock country” or come to Bama and be seen and respected around the country. Ay SoCar he will be the main man on the line drawing double teams and still making plays. At Bama he will be the main man in a DL that opponents are already having to double team. He’ll have a field day. ;)

Devin Taylor was 1st team All-SEC this year as a sophomore and JC would be playing opposite of him. USC was top 5 in the country in sacks. That's not the most valid argument. And are the guys I mentioned (Lattimore, Jeffery, Gilmore) not respected around the country? Yes, they are.

My reference was to the fact that he was the "Can't miss prospect of the decade" if you listened to recruiting analysts, and he only had 500 yards receiving last year (100 against us). My point is that depending on where you go, if you dont have a solid supporting cast, then you can't be as successful as other schools. JC would be infinitely better in our 3-4 with guys like Jesse Williams drawing double teams in the middle.

Come on dude, I will grant that USC is a good team but do you really believe that when Bama is clicking on all cylinders, USC is better? Look @ what a healthy Bama team did to Michigan State. We could have put up 70 point if CNS was a classless individual. USC will be a good team and will compete for the SEC championhip w/Clowney. Bama is a great team and will compete for SEC and NC's w/or w/out Clowney. With that said, I SUUUUUUUURRRREEEE would love to have him though!!!

BTW, when I say compete for the SEC championship, I mean SEC East.
