Continuation of previous thread.

Seeing how the Georgia Board of Regents are political appointee's, this shows the hypocrisy of the politics involved.

Good.

This email was sent out yesterday:
"Today, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order that, for now, temporarily blocks Governor Bill Lee’s executive order that allowed parents to opt out their children from wearing mask while in school. This means that the judge’s ruling effectively returns the mask-mandate authority back to local jurisdictions, and in our case, the Shelby County Health Department.

Therefore, beginning Tuesday, September 7th, ACS and all schools in Shelby County will once again fall under the SCHD’s directive that requires masks be worn by all students while indoors. As we did at the beginning of this school year:

  • All students, staff and visitors must wear masks while inside ACS buildings before, during and after school hours. Masks will be provided upon request or need.
  • Students who fail or refuse to wear a face mask will be sent home with an unexcused absence and potentially be subjected to ACS Discipline Policy 6.313.
  • Masks will not be required outdoors.
According to the SCHD’s mandate, parents cannot opt out their children from wearing masks. Additionally, religious exemptions will not be accepted. The SCHD defines mask exemptions according to the CDC’s Face Mask Order, which allows exemptions for individuals with certain disabilities. More information about the CDC’s permitted exemptions can be found on the ACS COVID-19 Dashboard. Those who wish to be exempted from wearing masks based on medical reasons must provide documentation to the school from the student’s medical provider. The exemption protocols listed above are no different from what ACS implemented, expected and enforced all of last school year, in which we had little to no issues with compliance. The same is expected now.

We don’t like the back-and-forth policies that have been taking place, but we’ve remained consistent in following local and state directives and now the Courts. While the debate on masks will almost certainly continue, we’ll remain focused on our primary duty as a school system, and that’s keeping schools open and providing a quality education for all students.

Wearing Face Masks Lowers Chance of Quarantine

What this preliminary injunction means is that less students will be required to quarantine. The SCHD and CDC say students do not have to quarantine if they are masked and at least three feet away from the individual testing positive. Regardless of your position on mask wearing, we know there is benefit to keeping students healthy and learning physically inside the classroom.

As a reminder, we have launched the ACS COVID-19 Dashboard so you can keep up with the latest COVID-19 totals in your school and district wide.

Thank you!
"

"Today, Federal Judge Sheryl Lipman ruled that the K-12 mask mandate issued by the Shelby County Health Department is lawful, blocking Gov. Bill Lee’s Executive Order from resuming. Therefore, as we have been doing since Judge Lipman first issued the restraining order earlier this month, masks will continue to be required, as directed by the SCHD.

As always, we will continue to keep you updated as developments are made."
