Ball autographed by the 1961 team on ebay

Gotcha. I found a link to the coaches, Clem Gryska was also on the staff. Mal was the backup QB, I didn't know that, and Brother was a HB.

Very nice ball, I think that's the oldest team autographed Bama ball I've seen on ebay, definitely would look nice in my collection :)

I know autographed footballs from national championship years are valuable. Fortunately, I have one from 1992 on the "Century of Champions" Logo Ball. However, for any of you collectors who might have a decent idea, what do you think the going rate would be for an autographed football from Bryant's "best team" (1966) which was robbed of the national championship by the northern bias. Now, mind you, I wouldn't part with it for the world. Just wondering what it would be likely to draw?

BamaLaw if I am thinking of the same 'Century of Champions' ball that you have, that's a gorgeous ball to start with, is it the one that has 2 white panels and 2 panels that have what appears to be 'elephant' skin? I have one like that that has 3 white panels, and the fourth has the 'elephant' skin. It doesn't have the Century of Champions logo, it has the old-style Elephant running through the A logo.

As for the 1966 ball, obviously the 2 biggest factors are going to be the condition of the ball itself, and if it has Bear's signature or not. Then you also have to consider the condition of the signatures, if they are clear or not.

IF you had a ball signed by the team and signed by both Bear and Snake, and if the ball and sigs are in decent condition.....I would say over a thousand easily.

If you have a ball that's been signed recently like the 1961 ball, and if it has Snake and most of the rest of the team, I would say it could easily go for $500 if you sold it, and maybe push a thousand if you had a couple of bidders get in a bidding war. Wouldn't surprise me if the 61 ball went well over $500, especially since I've seen nice 1992 balls go for $250-300.

And I agree, the 1966 team was the best ever!

You accurately describe the 1992 ball.

As for the 1966 ball, it was signed in 1966, has Coach Bryant's signature along with assistant coaches', Snake's, Ray Perkins', really the whole team. For the most part, the signatures are in great shape. At any rate, they are definitely legible. My Dad won the ball in a raffle or as a door prize when I was a pre-schooler. I remembered having seen it as a child. When my Dad died last summer, Mom mentioned it and got it out of his closet for me. I hadn't even thought of it in years, nor had I seen it in years. It did not have a year on it so I had to get out a media guide and by process of elimination and inclusion figure out which year's ball that it was.

As I stated in my earlier post, no way would I part with either of them. I was just curious to know what type of intrinsic worth such items have.

Then I would say we're talking between 1 and 2 thousand, if it has that many sigs, and they are legible. I think most collectors give some sway for the condition of a ball that old. I think it's great that they have the coaches, most balls don't, I noticed the 61 ball had Gryska and Stallings(thanks Bayou). Also thought it was interesting it had Brother, I haven't seen him on many Bama items from my experience.

Just curious was the 66 ball signed on a regular football, or a white-panel one?

I have one that has 2 white panels and 2 panels that have what appears to be 'elephant' skin. It is the 'Century of Champions' ball. Signed before a later edition of the National Champsionship ball.

I prize mine, got it in November before the National Championship ring sparkled in CGS eyes.

However, Copeland and Curry signed the COC ball but were gone before the signing of the NC ball.

BamaZone it sounds like you've got the same ball BamaLaw does.

There's a funny story behind my 92 ball.....in 1999 my uncle bought me the ball signed by Dubose(this was right after Bama won the SEC), and bought it as a Christmas present to give to me that year, but I didn't visit him to get it till the next year, and of course by then Bama had fired Dubose.

So of course the ball had lost it's luster to me by then(lol), but since it was a present I didn't want to get rid of it, so I kept it, then one day I realized that Dubose was the DL coach on the 92 squad, so I decided to get the rest of the 92 team to sign it, and I made it a 92 team ball. By now its got most of the signatures of the team and coaches, the only one I really need at this point is Brother Oliver.

I have one too.

From the '79 team. All signed including coach Bryant. It will hopefully be my great great great you know the spill, grand kids one day. I also have balls from the A-day games signed by most of the team for the last 5 or so years.

Personally, I wouldn't go any higher that the $100.00 I just saw. This ball is only signed by a handful of team members. I think it would be a nice thing to have, but it's not of much value in terms of cash.

I have the '66 team ball autographed (signed in January of '67), and several dozen Bama players. I'm most proud of an autographed print of Don Hutson. Mr. Hutson autographed it for me about a year before his death.

GAMEFACE that's what I started doing in 2002, getting balls signed each A-Day. Hate that I stood in line over an hour just to get Frannie in 2002 lol Live and learn I guess. And I think a 79 ball signed is the oldest one I'd seen on ebay, before this one, but it's been signed recently, not original like yours.

I showed the 61 ball to a friend of mine that's a big Bama collector, and he said other than missing Lee Roy Jordan, who is in town several times a year, it's a pretty good deal. He also said Lee Roy is supposed to be in Tuscaloosa next month for a golf tourney. To me, it having both Stallings and Brother on the same ball was unusual, and also unusual that Billy Neighbors signed it, cause he usually wants to personalize everything he signs. I'm really surprised the reserve has already been met, I figured it would be at least double that.

Bad news is that now he knows about it and wants to bid on it! I'll have to keep my mouth shut from now on lol BTW if you guys find any similar signed balls on ebay, please post them, I love looking at them if nothing else.

Good luck BAMMAR.....hope it goes to a Bama fan whoever gets it.
