The Alabama Frozen Tide (28-10-1), coached by Huntsville's Mike Quenneville, got goals from Mark Wysock, Matt Mayes (two), Kenny Janssen and Tanner Himmelman. Clay Link had two assists and Zach Reichl, Wysock and Zach Dailey had one apiece. Goalie John Bierchen earned the shutout.

In Saturday's semifinals, Georgia plays Florida (17-5) at 6:10 p.m. and Vanderbilt plays Alabama at 8:50. Tennessee plays South Carolina for seventh place at 1:10 and Auburn plays Ole Miss for fifth place at 3:30. Sunday's third-place game is at 11:30 a.m. and the championship is at 2:30 p.m.

There's a lot of hockey going on in Huntsville tonight. With the SECHC tourney and the Havoc taking on the hated columbus cottonmouths. Unfortunately, I can't go to any of them.
Roll Frozen Tide!

Just curious....I understand that the hockey team has already made the national tournament in the club team division, which I don't think is part of the NCAA tournament.

My question is, who pays for all that travel expense? For that matter, who pays the coach? What exactly distinguishes a club team from a varsity sport?

The players are responsible for all costs. I know there is some University support but have no idea the amount. From what I have heard from some people we would all probably be surprised at how much their budget is. Ice rental is not cheap. I did see this on the teams website where Bama Fever was helping them raise funds to go to the National Championships through some tshirt sales.

Bama Fever announced the start of a fund raiser to help cover the costs associated with Bama Hockey’s trip to the National Championship Tournament. Bama Fever is printing 1,000 t-shirts commemorating the Frozen Tide’s first ever trip to Nationals. The shirts can be ordered through this link Elephant Hockey Player

Coaches are all volunteers.
Varsity sport is authorized through University Athletic department and club is through the Student Rec Department is my understanding.

Does the team still have to drive to Pelham for practice?

How many other club sports do we have?
